Survivor 11 Novermber 04

Any clue why Chris voted Sarg off? Any why did he say that it was a vote for him and not against him?

Who voted for Eliza and who voted for Julie? (We had a phone call just as they were showing the voting.

What this show needs is Rupert.

Chad voted for Julie and Sarge voted for Eliza. It’s a little odd that the men’s alliance fell apart, too. I get the feeling that they assumed Eliza would go along with their 5-4 plan to oust one of the females and when, perhaps at the last minute, she decided not to, they were left not having a Plan B.

What is really odd is that Twila showed her hand and said that she was more comfortable with the men, blah blah blah, but then voted for Sarge anyway. Why did she deliberately alienate the women with that speech about how she never felt comfortable with the women and was going to vote with the men?

Well, that’s it for me. I hate it when I’m right.

Of course we don’t know what happened before tribal council, but I think Sarge made a huge mistake during it. He should not have mentioned Twila was a lock for fourth place in their alliance. He alienated her from the female group (which is why she ended up giving that speech I think). As well, there would now be no way to convince Eliza (or somebody else) to come to their group as she could never get better than fifth with them. So Sarge pretty much had to go so that they could build a four way alliance of Twila, Eliza, and the two guys and then see where they can go from there.

The show was good last night. I really enjoyed it.

Ami is making a terrible mistake in that she has sent three votes to her opponent should she make it to the final TC.

There is winning and there is poor sportsmanship. Her sneering and mocking of the men’s demise is killing her final chances.

I guess she hates men more than she likes money.

As for Twila’s speech, I thought I saw an opening for a twist. My wife said you’d have to be stupid to give that speech if it were not going your way. The looks on Ami and Leann’s faces were gold. I guess Twila is stupid.

Leann is playing a good game. Gets Julie onboard with the reward, brings back food for her alliance, gets points with the girls for burning the guys, and doesn’t piss off the guys in the process (they were actually grateful!).

She seems well liked by everyone and I could see the guys voting for her over everyone else.

I know why she connived with her teammates to give the men bones, but it still seemed very petty to me.

On one hand, she’s expected to bring something back. She had to have something for the whole tribe. But sharing the wings with the women and giving the men the bones was mean-spirited. I don’t think any of the men would have done that.

I didn’t understand why he did this either. Then he said it was a vote for him not against. HUH?

This was the first episode of this season I’ve seen. Were the men a bunch of tools and so the way they’re treated now is some sort of comeuppance?

I have to agree with Johnny L.A. about the chicken wings. I was absolutely livid when they came back from the picnic and were making sure that the guys were gone so they could share the wings. GRRRRRR. And Ami’s comment about feeling like a bad kid or something like that…double GRRRR.

I think someone tried to explain why Chris voted against Sarge, but I didn’t quite get it. Can that someone or anybody else offer possible explanations?

I think it may have been bad, but not mean spirited. Harsh, but not hateful.

Where Ami seems to enjoy ridiculing the men for the sake of her own sick pleasure, Leann seemed to do it to gain an advantage in the game. Bravo.

In it to win it. I think toying with the men to string them along, while boosting her place among the women players was about as solid as you get.

EVERYONE brings back food from the RC’s. As Johnny L.A. says. You get no bounce from that.

Here, Leann got a better bounce than normal by pulling a fast one. The guys were happy she at least brought back something, and the women were happy that Leann pulled a fast one.

The best of both worlds. I hope she wins.

I don’t think most women would have done it either. When they did that my husband looked at me and said, “These are all just bad people.” I have to agree with him. Not one of these women seem to have a single redeeming quality. There is playing the game and then there is just being a bitch because you can.

Of course, this episode was the same stuff all over again - will they switch alliances and make things interesting??? No, Sarge is gone just like everyone suspected.
I don’t think anyone plays this game to win anymore. Many seem content with 3rd, 4th, even 5th, and if they luck out and go all the way, that’s just icing on the cake. All Stars illustrated this perfectly.
And, I wish they would go back to giving them a set amount of rice and letting them starve. It would get rid of all the do-nothings. Does this group do anything besides sit on their collective ass? I swear some of them have even gained weight.

There does seem to be less time devoted to food-gathering in this season than anything we’ve previously seen. Living in damn Club Med, apparently.

I thought the wings-for-the-girls was mean-spirited and petty.

My first thought post-RC was that the men would try to swing Eliza to their side, but that would’ve still put them in the minority – so their discussed strategy of making Eliza the bootee was pretty smart. A pity that they didn’t come close to pulling it off. I have no clue why the men didn’t vote together, and why Chris voted for Sarge.

It sure looks like in two weeks we’re set up for a HBO-midnight soft-core-porn fest: 6 women marooned on a tropical island with no men. Hot girl-on-girl action. A boat appears…it’s Jeff!

(Actually, it sounds more like The Horrors of Spider Island, of MST3K fame.)

I found this interview (link )with Sarge(Lea), where he tries to explain Chris’ reasoning:

Julie Chen: Watching at home it looks very much like it’s the women vs the men but then last night at Tribal Council, you 3 men all voted differently. You wanted Eliza out, Chris voted you out, what was that all about. He actually said "this is not against you but for you.
Lea: I think with Chris, he knew there was no way he could change the vote… so he did not want to throw another name out there and have them looking around and see 3 people voting against women. He knew I was gone so he wanted to keep it on a level base, so he come behind maybe later on and stab them in the back for me, out of respect. You know, “hey I got 'em. They got you, I got them. We’re a team. We won the war. We’ve got casualties but the war was won”.

I’m surprised everyone hates Ami so much. OK- not really, my wife hates her too… look at things from a different perspective 'tho. The men were idiots from day one, voting out any player who looked to be a good competitor. Smmmmart strategy! Lea had a shot at an alliance with a bunch of the young bucks but went with the weak old losers to be safe. We’ve all seen how well that plan has worked out.

Ami on the other hand assumed control of her team and made it clear who the enemy were. She betrayed her true Machiavellian nature when she voted out the woman who said “Just in case…” (can’t remember who she was), but so what? She’s running the show like Richard Hatch, only she’s waaay hotter. Seriously- what’s not to like??
Go Ami Go!

Thanks LionelHutz405. It seems like I should know you from somewhere. Movies? TV?

Anybody have any other guesses on Chris’s vote?

Well, I’m out. After not having missed a single Survivor episode ever, last night was my last night until this iteration is over. I’m not offended by anything, but I just don’t care. The people are beyond boring, I have no one to remotely root for. Even on a past season where the person I rooted for was obviously doomed (say Rodger and Elizabeth) I still enjoyed watching them.

There is no one I actively despise. Sure, Ami is kinda mean, but as far as villians go, she’s about as evil as Count Chocula. Any of the remaining people could win, and I would say “Eh”. I could essentially write a script each week prior to the show of what will happen and be correct. And that sucks. They might as well show a wacky neighbor comedy starring the previously unknown Belushi brother and it would be as fresh, entertaining, and innovative as Survivor has become.

At this point, the island is basically inhabited by a bunch of people modeled after Vicky, the girl robot on Small Wonder. Except of course, these people have had Vicky’s sparkling personality chip removed. “Head to reward challenge…scrounge for food…go to immunity…try to understand human emotion called love…scheme in bland what ifs…vote off the most obvious…oil can, oil can.”

That’s the first time I’ve seen anyone bring something back from a reward. I don’t think it’s allowed. If she was being mean-spirited, she wouldn’t have brought the men anything. And the men wouldn’t have done it because THOSE men wouldn’t have had the brain cells to think of it.

IIRC, Sean and Paschal were the first to do it in … aw, hell, I don’t remember which season it was. I vividly remember them hiding it in their pockets and stuff so as not to get caught. The last few seasons, someone’s brought back food from almost every reward (usually not bothering to hide it well at all, anymore), and nobody’s yelled at them yet.

I don’t hate Ami, it’s just that now I know she hates men, I won’t be able to have that threesome with her and Orlando Bloom. Dammit!

I used to hate Ami, but then I saw the vote and realized that it is just the way the producers were editing the show. The men have no loyalty to each other, the women do. She’s just outplaying the others. The men are out! Write them off. The question is now, who will be queen of the hill. The only hope for the men is to continually win immunity, if they can. They were totally whopped last time.
