What pisses me off is that once again, the jury members (except Ami and Scout) are willing to give a free pass to a lying, cheating, back-stabbing MAN but are shocked and dismayed when the same qualities are exhibited in a strong, independent WOMAN. Sexism is alive and well in 2004.
I was rooting for Twila at the end. I like her because she needed the money and was willing to lie and cheat for it, but not willing to CRY (or apologize to Eliza) for it. Life has made her hard around the edges, but you can tell that she has a good heart. What she doesn’t realize now, but hopefully will someday, is that her struggles have probably given her son something that few kids in America have these days: character. How many 19 year old boys would get up in front of a national audience and tell everyone that he loves his mom? She’ll get $100,000. Good for her.
I get the impression that Chris would have sucked everyone’s genitals to get the million bucks and my opinion of him was really lowered. His speech to Twila that she should not take any crap from the jury members (so she would alienate the jury and make him look better by comparison) was so thinly disguised, even my 10 year old could see through it. I have a sinking feeling that he’s going to be one of people who blows through his money in 5 years.
Jeff’s undisguised disdain for Chris and undisguised admiration for Twila was comedic.
My opinion of Ami and Scout went up quite a bit. They were able to see through Chris’ bullshit. They were both smart, intuitive players. Too bad Julie and LeeAnn were so easily manipulated.
LeAnn: She was HURT by Twila’s deception? That’s such bullshit. Had she been loyal to her alliance with Scout and Twila, she would have been in the Final Four. Instead she and Ami chose to replace Scout/Twila (they told each player it was the other) with Julie. Her own deception sunk her.
Sarge: He tried to do the Susan Hawk speech, but he just doesn’t have it in him. I’m glad he saw what an ass he was being and back-pedaled at the end. The mark of maturity is the ability to admit when you’re wrong. Good for him.
Eliza: I’m so glad she didn’t win the million bucks. Of all the people there, most were gracious and surprisingly introspective. She was the exception. Twila was right on: Eliza has a lot of growing up to do.
Julie: I was surprised by her emotion. I’m glad that she finally saw Chris for who she was.
Dolly: She’s a doll.
The pretty boys were no surprise. Hope the producers focus more on substance than looks next time.
Rory: Gracious loser.
Chad: He survived cancer and kicked ass. He already won the lottery.
Bubba: I just don’t feel he had much of a personality.
