Let me bottom line it. It’s rude and hurts your eyes to not read for three hours but I lack self-control and am rude because I can’t not read for three hours? Something like that?
No, it’s rude for you to expect everyone else to go out of their way for you.
Nobody is saying you can’t read the thread. I even explicitly detailed a very easy and logical approach for you to take: check the post timestamps and identify the last post before the show’s air time, and then read up to that post. Your counter-proposal speaks volumes about your mindset when you wonder why the first poster who posts after 8:00pm eastern can’t just put a warning at the top of their post. Again expecting somebody else to enable your habits.
Even worse, I noticed that you specified that an “east coaster” had to be the one to put in the warning. I thought the whole premise of your position was that you might be in the thread between 8:00pm and 11:00pm eastern time. That is what you’re trying to accomplish, right? So why can’t YOU make a post at 8:00pm announcing that the show is starting on the east coast? Why is it everybody else’s job to keep you spoiler free? Shouldn’t you take some responsibility for yourself?
Look, I get that you want everyone else to behave in a way that works best for you. But you’re asking them to do something. I, OTOH, am not asking anybody do do anything special, and thus your little “we’re both rude” quip is not only petty, but also objectively false.
Uh, yeah you are expecting people to do something special. In fact, you’re expecting most of the country to do something special during those ever so precious three hours of your life you can’t blurt out “Yao Man got the boot!”
Most of the east coast goes to bed and most of the next two, or three or four or five pages take place way past your “blurt out the results” period anyway.
How is discussing an episode that has already aired in a weekly episode thread “blurting out” anything. Face facts, you’re a whiner with a lack of self control.
As is often said when these discussions come up, start your own thread if it bothers you so much. See how that works out for you.
I am shocked that someone on the West Coast is still complaining about there being spoilers after the show has aired on the East Coast, as if this hadn’t already been hashed out seven fricken’ years ago.
I do believe someone started their own thread (you’re in it now) and now east coasters are wetting their diapers about it.
I’m finding this pretty damn amusing and yes I can check time stamps but getting east coast panties in a twist is so worth it.
West Coaster here: I’ve stopped reading these threads before 9pm Pacific. I think it would be nice if spoilers were observed, or some other tradition in courtesy of the folks who aren’t on the East Coast. There have been traditions of this sort in past Survivor seasons on this board. But its clearly not something that’s going to happen right now, and its not something I feel entitled to, and I’m fine with that.
What are you talking about? What special thing am I expecting people to do?
I think the words you’re looking for are “annoyed at the obnoxious whiners.”
And why would anyone start a second thread without spoiler boxes? This thread was started long after the epiosde ended on the east coast and didn’t get going until the next day.
I’m on the East Coast. I am also never home when the show airs so I always watch it later on my DVR, sometimes the next day, (meaning *after *the West Coasters.) OMG whatever shall I do? How can I protect myself from reading spoilers for a show I haven’t watched yet? If only there was some way for me not to click on threads I don’t want to read.
Keep the insults out of Cafe Society, please.
For that matter, keep the trolling out of the SDMB.
Sorry Skip. I wasn’t deliberately trolling, but it sure sounded like it. I honestly didn’t come in here to bait east coasters.
Please remember that the threads in Cafe Society are not meant for discussions about other posters. If you’re tempted to talk about someone’s intelligence, state-of-mind, personality, etc… don’t. Take it to the Pit. Talk about the art, production, song, etc… all you want; keep the insults out of it.
As far as spoilers go: there is no prohibition on starting threads about shows that haven’t aired yet on either coast (or in some cases, on shows that haven’t aired yet anywhere in the States). What we do ask is that the thread title is clearly labeled, and that readers are warned of the spoilers contained within. Whether those spoilers are boxed or open really depends on the preference of the OP. If he/she asks for boxed spoilers, I see no problem in playing along; likewise, if the OP allows for unboxed spoilers, then that’s what the reader should expect.
If you’re afraid of reading a spoiler for an episode you haven’t yet seen, then it’s your responsibility to avoid those threads that are about that episode, and that clearly warn you of spoilers.
A handy guideline to spoilers can be found [post=6769947]here[/post] in the forum rules for Cafe Society. Basically, all we’re asking for is a little common sense and a bit of courtesy.
I would just like to expand Skip’s comment a bit: we have lots of posters outside the U.S., and just because a show is aired in the U.S. doesn’t mean that our posters in the U.K. or Australia or etc. have had a chance to see it yet. There can be several months delay between a show airing in the U.S. and being broadcast in other countries. So, please be considerate of other posters: spoilers should be hidden via tags or alerted in the thread title, pretty much regardless of how old the show is.
