Survivor 3/12

Did you know Coach was a weather witch, too? Surprisingly, this was the only real douchiness we saw from him this week, though the previews do promise to make up for the missed week by providing what looks like really delicious douchiness from the man.

Anyway, that’s all I want to put here to avoid spoilers! Discuss away!

What the hell was Taj thinking, blowing up like that at her tribemates? Why give them a reason to dislike you right before a Tribal Council? She was very lucky that Spencer had an even bigger target on his back, but she could be sent packing next.

Brendan may have tipped his hand when he picked Steven (?) to go to exile with him. Coach picked up on it and now he’s gunning for Brendan.

Tyson picked up on it. Coach couldn’t pick up a steel nail with a magnet.

I thought what Tyson picked up on was Taj saying “I love you” to Brenden for not picking her. But it was probably both.
Taj’s mouth was way out of control this week.

No, it was actually Tyson who went over to Coach and Debbie and Erinn and said something about thinking that Brendan was reaching out to the other tribe, and that Brendan had to go next.

I’m hoping Erinn jumps over to the Brendan/Sierra ship and splits the tribe in half. If we go into the merge 5-5 with the cross-tribe alliance intact, it will get real interesting.

  • I was amused by Probst’ concern for half of JT’s tooth, and JT’s general non-interest in same. I’d guess JT chucked the tooth a second time on the way back to camp.

  • JT was an animal in the IC! Wow, four (right?) points. I can see where he’d be put out if he thought someone was a non-performer, but its impossible to tell from this side of the television if Spencer was that person.

  • Tyson is smarter than I’d taken him for, spotting the possible Brendan connection with other Exile Sand-dune inhabitants.

  • Also amusing was Stephen’s reaction to Exile – “Woah! It’s like an oasis!” he says, as he regards the worlds largest sand pile west of Egypt, barren as Ayer’s Rock.

  • Spencer gave up, totally, before TC. His hangdog attitude surely pushed him across the loser-line as much as anything else. OK, I can’t know that, but he did seem to be walking around with a “kick me” sign on his back throughout the last 20 minutes of the episode.

And if the cross-tribe alliance (CTA ) is general knowledge by the merge (which seems to be where things might be heading) that leaves the CTA with four members against 6 others. Of course, the CTA would still be up two HII’s, so they might have the advantage.

Yeah, I know. But the editing showed Tyson with that WTF? look, right after Taj said “I love you”. The “I love you”, was in response to Brendan not picking her.
So yes, I think it was probably a combination of events that pricked Tyson’s ears.

My assumption is that it’s still pretty freaking hot there, so Taj isn’t necessarily at her best.

That’s assuming that the other 6 would unite. And that each member of the CTA would be comfortable voting off former tribe mates right away.

I suppose that’s also assuming that the merge is next week. If CTA doesn’t lose members, and no merge, then next week its 5-4, the week after is 4-4, a CTA could do well. But that’s a very long string of assumptions. Also there’s Stephen’s attitude (understandably) that his HII is his, not the alliance’s, so CTA may not stay solid even before the merge.

Speaking of Stephen, he is currently in one of the best positions of anybody. He’s in the Exile Alliance, has the immunity idol, and is obviously a part of the main Jalapao alliance as well, being tight with J.T. More than anybody else, he has options on how to proceed. He just needs to make some good decisions and he’s golden.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking last night – damn, he’s in good shape.

And J.T. – he’s Ozzieriffic! If he’s got the strategic skills to back it up, he’s also solid for final four. I haven’t really seen any evidence of it, yet, other than his partnership with Stephen.

I think we got cheated out of some drama, actually. In the interests of keeping whether or not Taj had the HII a secret, we didn’t get to see exactly what went on there. Did Stephen refuse to give it to her? Did she even ask for it? Did Stephen manage to sweet-talk her into believing she really didn’t need it? Did everyone on the tribe except Spencer know who the actual vote-out was and therefore Taj never felt she needed it?

There are a lot of possibilities that got completely skipped over. We don’t even know for sure if the cross-tribal alliance is still intact or whether Taj ran backwards into Stephen’s knife.

This was one of my favorite moments of the season so far, because it was genuine heads-up gameplay. I guess I liked the contrast of this with Tyson’s hambone talking head moments. In a roundabout way it reminded me of the famous SNL skit with Phil Hartman as Ronald Reagan stumbling through PR functions when seen by the public, and masterminding global domination behind closed doors.

If it helps at all, jayjay, we had this same discussion. The producers are getting too predictable with the edits. My best guess is that the conversation(s) between Taj and Stephen was/were so boring that they chose not even to air it/them! The best they could do was hint at what went on with some reaction shots of both of them at TC.

Boy, that JT is one tough competitor! I’m still pulling for Taj because of Eddie George, but after that it’s JT all the way.

I predict Coach will get to the final 2 since everybody knows that asshole will lose to anybody.

Yeah, that’s what I assumed – after Stephen’s momentary “hm, what should I do,” there probably wasn’t any interesting resolution to that – the conversation, which was undoubtedly a straightforward “Nope, you’re right, Spencer is an easy out here” wouldn’t leave any room for suspense at TC.

Coach is that person that seems to get on Survivor every season (at least that I’ve seen). The person who doesn’t do much yet still somehow avoids ever being a legitimate boot target. So far he’s sucked at challenges (you’d think a coach would be at least somewhat athletic), and is a d-bag to boot. Why is he not at the top of the least for voting?

I think the show on Wednesday the 25th will be a clip + five minutes of stuff we’ve haven’t shown you yet show…we we’ll likely have to wait until April 2nd for truly new Coachdouchness.

Doesn’t that just plain suck?
