Survivor 36: Ghost Island premieres tonight

Donathan has been kind of stealthy. He has Laurel out there making a lot of noise, but he’s quietly in the background gathering intel. He’s much better at Survivor than I thought he was going to be.

Donathan and Kellyn are horrible at reading people.

I don’t know. When he played his idol, I pretty much shouted “Good for you!” I know it wasn’t NECESSARY, in the final analysis, but there was a fairly good chance he was going home if he didn’t play it, and he didn’t let himself be sucked in by Jenna(?)…whoever it was that tried to get him to play it on her and then conspired to make him the mark.

Yeah, I think Donathon did a really good job there. He figured out that Jenna was lying to him about it being her.

What he didn’t figure out (and probably couldn’t) was that the other 3 were lying to her about it.

So from his perspective, once you get that your supposed ally is being shady, the only reasonably assumption is that they are actually voting for you.

I loved that he didn’t play it for Jenna, I was yelling at him through my tv not to play it for her. He grows on me a little more each week.

Donathon (gawd what a ridiculous name) also impressed me with his firm and immediate No Freakin’ Way response when Michael asked to borrow his idol for an hour.
mmm

Sad to see Michael go since he tried his best and just had a lot of bad luck. That young man will go far, though.

Kellyn is a nervous wreck, and Lauren seems too much of follower. I don’t like Dom at all, and hope he doesn’t win. The other players need to seriously work on getting Dom and Wendell out. No one stands a chance against either of them.

It seems like except for Dom, Wendell, and some extent Kellyn, everyone is just playing for tomorrow, not for the end. Dom is totally playing to the jury too. He’s being giving a “good job” to pretty much everyone voted out.

Agreed on both counts. Playing for tomorrow seems so pathetic, but it’s not a 100% sure loser. If you are lucky enough to be taken to the end, then get a bitter jury, and you are likable enough, you might squeak out a victory. Maybe.

Good episode tonight. I was surprised in the end. Interested to see what everyone else thought.

Kellyn paid for those two votes on Laurel tonight.

No kidding. The editing seemed to be minimizing it, but I’m guessing that was a pretty big factor in Laurel’s decision on who to side with.

I’m really rooting for Wendell now. He seems like a great guy and so does his dad. Dominic, Laurel, or Donathon would also be deserving winners, but I’m guessing Laurel won’t make enough big moves to win the jury over, and Donathon will make too many and flame out pretty soon. Sebastian and Angela don’t seem to have any resumes at all, and Kellyn looks like she’s just being set up to be a complete stooge

Are there really only two episodes left? It seems like the season just started.

It only just started to have any strategic clarity. There were a number of episodes before that where things were all over the place, hard to follow, and thus uninteresting. It is a valiant effort by the producers to do multiple shuffles early to scramble things, but it doesn’t work: it makes alliances confusing for the viewer, but doesn’t really change things up enough to keep early tribal lines from holding sway. They would probably be better off to have two unshuffled tribes for a long time, let each one have its own little mini-season that we can clearly follow, then go to the merge.

I too was surprised by the results. Unless Laurel or Donathan wins, they are going to regret staying with the dominant group in this vote.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Wendell is my favorite player, and he’s someone I would like to have as a friend and/or work colleague IRL. But he has got to go. And Dom has to be next. No one is going to win against either one of those guys. No one.

I first I thought that, but now I’m not so sure. Lets say they knock off the three guys, and then it’s them and the 3 Naviti women. Is there really a path to the final 3 there without winning immunity?

Also, was Donathan trying to get Wendell to play his idol? Because THAT is the best strategy in this situation. He loses his idol, but you don’t vote against him so he stays your ally.

Here’s what I didn’t get - there’s 6 original Naviti left, Dom, Wendell, Seabass, Chelsea, Kellyn & Angela.

Dom, Wendell & Seabass team up with Donathan & Laurel to vote out Chelsea.

Chelsea, Kellyn & Angela team up with Donathan & Laurel to vote out Wendell.

At TC, Donathan announces “there are cracks in Naviti that will show up tonight.”

Then everyone from Naviti looks shocked - but why? They’ve all teamed up with Donathan to vote out another Naviti. They know Donathan likes to stir things up at TC. Why are they shocked & disturbed that he’s revealing what they’ve already planned with him?

I think they looked shocked because he was spilling the beans. Both groups were saying “ok, just pretend it’s still Naviti Strong” and Donathon blew it up. Yeah, I think he might’ve been trying to scare out an idol.

Its not uncommon for the TPTB to take some liberties with the editing.

Wendell had said earlier that if someone blinks funny, he was going to play his hidden idol. Sure looked like Donathan “blinked funny” with that comment.

The only surprise for me at tribal was “will Wendell play his idol or not.” I didn’t think for a second there was any chance of him going home - either Laurel and Donathan were going to stay with him, or he’d play his HII and survive the votes.

I know I’m probably a broken record at this point regarding the edit, but I feel like it’s been obvious for awhile now that either Domenick or Wendell will win (and the other no worse than 4th and likely 2nd), because they’ve been in the driver’s seat the whole time, received positive edits, and no one else has gotten a remotely good edit. When people do complain about them, it’s through someone like Kellyn being stupidly emotional - her complaint about Wendell regarding the loved one challenge made no sense. I think a better edit would’ve done a better job giving Sebastian, Angela and Chelsea more screen time, to make the inevitable Naviti fracture have more weight. After all, Dom/Wendell decided it was time to cut ties at the same time that the women did, so you could’ve played it off as an equal split. But instead we’ve had the whole season focused on Dom/Wendell as the frontrunners and the others trying (and failing) to mount an insurrection. Chelsea won 2 immunities and made the final 8 and only had four confessionals all season! She was a complete non-entity, and so I wasn’t convinced for a second that she was going to survive for a week over Wendell.

I think Laurel and Donathan have basically decided to play for 3rd/4th at this point, they’ve missed their chances. Wendell and Dom both have idols, so it’s going to be exceptionally difficult to vote them out with only a couple TCs left, especially depending on what individual immunity challenges they get.

I thought Donathan’s comments were about trying to flush an idol, but he said on twitter that wasn’t his intention, he just “wanted Naviti to feel the pressure [Malolo] has felt all game.” It would’ve been a lot more fun if he and Laurel had split their votes and caused a tie and let the chips fall where they may.
