One of Christian’s segments from this past episode is one of my all-time favorite Survivor confessionals:
“The plan handed down by Godfather Carl, when I was beckoned to his bedside… he tells me, ‘Christian, the vote is Alison. We’re leaving Gabby out of it. Cool with that?’ Carl, I’m cool with that. Absolutely. I always love to defer all my major strategic decisions to someone who is still half-sloshed.”
His delivery was perfect. It holds up okay here as plain text, but the perfect way he said it and the way it fit into the show narrative had me absolutely rolling. I rewatched it at least a half-dozen times.
She said on twitter that it was all stuff at camp that they did not need or use. They couldn’t catch any fish.
Yeah. It was basically “I will give you everything but the tarp.”:dubious:
They weren’t actually using anything she offered. They had caught zero fish, so giving up the fishing gear was meaningless. Without catching fish, they didn’t need half the pots and pans they had. Etc. And she knew Probst probably knew that she was offering essentially useless junk. She had a list of things they could easily give up and other things they were unwilling to give up (like their tarps).
They had caught a few small fish, and maybe more off screen, but yeah their fishing skills sucked.
I think a better tactic would have been to say, “Jeff, we’re almost out of rice, what do we do?” They aren’t going to let them starve, Angelina just wanted to appear useful.
David B., I have now been a RHAP subscriber (just the Survivor feed) for over a week now, and have not seen your name pop up. What am I doing wrong>
Here is his latest podcast
Aha, and now it is in my feed as well. I jumped the gun, should have been slightly more patient! Thanks.
Here is a link to Mike White’s letter.
Marshmallow white skin!
I forgot that Mel was the “Aah, my groin!” guy on TAR.
And I’m amused by the comment that’s surprised that Mike has a mother, because Mel is gay. As if gay people have offspring via fissioning or parthenogenesis.
Bump the thread to say that it is family visit night.
My least favorite episode of the year, normally.
They are away from their family for 6 weeks. Boo fricking Hoo! And they spend 1/4 to 1/3 of the show on the “introduction” of the loved ones.
The Blood vs Water editions were some of my least favorite seasons.
They lose a good five minutes just to Probst saying “loooooooooove.”
Eh. They’re away from their families for 6 weeks, under physically and psychologically brutal conditions. I can totally understand the impact of seeing a loved one under those circumstances. Though it is true that they tend to milk the pathos a bit heavily.
I like it when the loved ones actually participate in the challenge along with the players.
I agree with all of this. They seem to have stopped having loved ones participate, which is a shame and hard to understand. Maybe it made people reluctant to have parents or sisters as opposed to their athletic brothers come visit?
Hope you enjoyed it!
I did! Interesting format, looking specifically at the person voted out, and why they lost—based on a series of “Survivor rules” which I assume you wrote?
BTW, I do actually endorse Alec’s “experience” approach to the game, but I understand why you criticize it.
I’m wondering if the editing was deliberately done to make Gabby seem like a scorned potential girlfriend? After Christian’s GF came out (which was just darling, BTW), and he gushed about her, it appears that Gabby realized that she didn’t have a chance with him, felt like a chump, and took revenge on him.
I like Gabby still, but she is a heap of emotional wreckage.
Angelina is really her own biggest fan.
Glad Alison is still in the game.
I really enjoy Christian, even though I think he made a big strategic blunder by booting Carl so early on.
Still on the fence re Mike. But I want Nick or Davie to win because I have a feeling that Christian is going to be back multiple times just because he’s so flipping amusing.
Yep, I kind of glossed over it this week because we don’t usually have too many new listeners this deep in the season, but I wrote the original version of the rules after Season 1 and have been updating them ever since. You can find them at http://www.robhasawebsite.com/survivorrules.
Also something we mostly glossed over because we’d hit on it earlier this season a couple times. We’re talking about why a player lost the game. Since’s it’s a game/strategy-based discussion, “experience” doesn’t play into it. If someone wants to just go out there to have fun, OK, but we’re going to point out when they do something wrong.
(The reason it came up earlier in the season was that Natalie did an instagram video about how she was actually a winner in response to seeing a tweet about the podcast.)
I agree with nearly all of this, except that I got tired of Gabby awhile back. I thought it was perfect that she got the boot after scheming against Christian.
My favorite moment was when Angelina just had to tell her mom about her “sacrifice”.
I’m liking Davie more all the time!
