No. I was implying that the *usual, normal run of the mill, happens every nite on Survivor spooning * likely has some element of consent that they dont bother to show since they show such a tiny % of all they shoot- which is 24/7.
Kellee did say she didnt like to be touched- at all (which is a bit weird for Survivor). Dan apparently was totally clueless and not listening. He was out of line.
Kellee’s exact quote from last episode while she was walking with Missy:
“Day 1 I refused to sleep next to Dan. Like literally everyone was like ‘Kellee doesn’t like touching people’. You know why I don’t like touching people? Because Dan kept touching me. And so then I had to be like ‘I don’t like touching people please don’t touch me.’ And he still touches me. Even yesterday he like took my hair and went like this” - cut to scene of Dan creepily touching her hair and face while they’re having a conversation - “like picking little, I’m like ‘Don’t touch my face!’ Tommy puts his arm around me and it’s like, whatever.”
So it’s obvious to me she doesn’t have some huge phobia about anyone touching her at all - she even stated she was fine with Tommy putting his arm around her. She said that she didn’t like touching people because, like many women have been taught, she’s uncomfortable coming straight out and saying “You’re a fucking creep, never touch me again.” Especially when she knows that she may have to spend another 38 days with the guy. So she tried to defuse it a bit, make it about her idiosyncrasies instead of about his inappropriate behavior.
I’m not an idiot. I thought they’d have had enough complaints and bad press to either issue a statement in the press or send a canned email reply to people complaining. And I think they’ve lost a lot more than a single viewer.
Well, the temporary split for immunity seems like it’ll always screw people over, but, Aaron pretty much knew he was the first one on the chopping block if he didn’t win immunity, and Missy kinda did it to herself. Missy was fun in a lot of ways but I wonder if she’s a bit of a compulsive gaslighter. “I didn’t come after you!” she protested to Tommy, minutes after writing Tommy’s name down. Elizabeth seems completely socially inept too, at least in terms of recognizing what’s going on.
I thought Probst’s response to Missy’s complaint about him not pointing out two black people had immunity was good… I also wouldn’t think it’s worth pointing out because it’s a bit demeaning in a way (also, how often has there been two people with immunity at one tribal period?). Not to mention those same two people immediately got voted out at the next two votes. (Also, I didn’t even realize Aaron’s black.)
Also Noura not realizing she should’ve stayed in the challenge was very Noura.
I like the two-necklace gimmick, and that they’re mixing it up. They even sort of implemented someone’s suggestion from here on the boards from a previous season, where tribes are randomly picked for each immunity challenge. I applaud them mixing it up.
That said, I love the his and hers idols so much more than the random tribes and it seems like a logical thing to adopt permanently. I guess it doesn’t fully work; what if final 6 is five women and one guy, that one guy automatically wins the guys’ idol? But at least they could do it whenever it’s a fairly even split between them. Maybe the first few challenges after the merge.
I normally hate it when people complain about other people making a big deal about various firsts (See: The reaction to the first all woman spacewalk), but in this case, yeah, it really wasn’t necessary. I’m sure someone has a record of how many times dual idols were given out, but it can’t be that many. And I believe Probst that he honestly didn’t realize.
I doubt they’ll do any more dual idols the rest of the season. But it is a good twist for just after the merge.
Sorry for coming to the party late, but my first impression was that it looked an awful lot like the paper they use during the vote. He could have taken it back and said that he was given an extra vote at Tribal.
So they just get on with the game like nothing ever happened. OK.
The double Tribal Council was a great twist. It exposed some people who are hiding behind numbers but don’t really have a game to speak of. I was not sorry to see Missy go after last week, and Aaron has been a snake since day one. Good riddance to both.
Janet may have found new life; I hope so. There’s nobody else left who really deserves to win, and no, it’s not too early to say so.
Another episode with no Island of the Idols visit. I’m not mad at that. The concept has barely affected the game at all, and the segments have ranged from mildly entertaining to a huge waste of airtime. An interesting idea, I suppose, but it just hasn’t come off well.
I have noticed that typically the cute chicks go first. I haven’t noticed the same being true for minorities, but I could easily be oblivious to it. I don’t doubt her.
I think this is true, but it happens for mostly ‘reasonable’ reasons rather than purely sexist/racist ones.
In the starting phase, there’s a huge emphasis on your tribe winning. And almost all of the early challenges have a large physical aspect – you have win races over obstacle courses, say, or throw things at targets or drag huge unwieldy things around. They are never “endurance” challenges or purely “mental” things like they sometimes used to have, like playing Concentration or answering questions based on a story Jeff tells or whatever. So obviously you want to have your tribe physically strong, meaning if you have to vote someone out, you pick those you assume will be of the least use in winning.
And that tends to be A) older women B) ‘weak’ women (who can also be seen as the cute little skinny women) and C) anyone who cannot contribute to the likely coming challenges.
It’s the last one that has tended to do in minority players at an increased rate in the early games. Mainly because for some reason Survivor seems to have insisted on casting black guys who cannot swim. That hasn’t happened nearly as often lately, so maybe they’ve finally learned.
Really, it strikes me as a no-brainer, especially now that ALL the Survivor seasons are filmed on the same islands because they want the visuals of the water challenges. If you want to go on Survivor, learn to swim, dammit! It’s not that hard, and there are pretty cheap YMCA swimming lessons offered all over the place.
(Also learn how to use flint and steel to make fires. And realize you don’t need roosters around for hens to lay eggs.)
(And if you’re aiming for The Amazing Race learn to drive stick, learn how to read a map, and buy yourself some item of jewelry that includes a compass. Sheesh.)
It was a bit of thing for a while, but may not be the case any more.
(With numbers: in seasons 26-33, people of colour comprised 27% of total players, and 40% of first three boots. (Regardless of what you might think of the statistical significance of these numbers, they are commonly held by people on the internet (well, reddit, at least) to show an element of probably-unconscious bias against minorities.))
I guess I’m not the only one that found last night’s episode rather underwhelming. Obvious voting targets, only real drama was whether Karishma would screw up with her idol (she didn’t), and no real drama on the re-vote either.
I guess Karishma had a few better options if she wanted to get creative: either play her idol and vote with Elizabeth to send one of the majority home (rather than stick Elizabeth with a vote and thus an easy re-vote ouster) or possibly even have her and Karishma put a vote on two different targets of the majority to make them pick sides in a re-vote.
Those only work if the majority isn’t splitting the vote, but why not take the chance? She would be safe either way with her idol and sewing chaos is pretty much her only chance to move forward.
Karishma’s idol play was the right choice (obviously). Like you, I think she chose poorly targetting Elizabeth. She could have absolutely forced the majority alliance to eat one of their own. Sure, you’re still down 6 to 1 to 1, maybe 6 to 2 with Elizabeth as an ally, but possibly creating a fracture in the majority alliance is her best move. She’s now 7-1. Better go on an immunity streak. I have this sinking feeling it is going to be a disappointing finale. There’s virtually nobody left that I really care about. Lauren, I guess. She seems to be playing a good game. It could very well be the Goat army as a finale. Ugh.
You are right… somehow I didn’t catch that Dan was the one that voted for Elizabeth. Not sure why that happened… I guess it’s the minimum you can do in case Karishma has an idol, hoping that Karishma votes Elizabeth and Elizabeth votes Karishma. Or, as it worked out here, keeping Karishma’s one vote from deciding who goes home.
Still not entirely sure why Karishma didn’t at least try to coordinate a vote with Elizabeth instead of worrying only about saving her own skin. Maybe she was concerned that trying to get out anybody except Janet would make it completely impossible for the majority to turn on themselves next tribal? Or maybe she just didn’t think she could pull it off?
Anyway, dull episode and looking like a pretty dull run in. I guess it’s Tommy or Lauren now as the only reasonable winners. Everybody else would be on the short list for worst winners, I think.
