Kyle’s a good “throw out a name” target, but he’s not really a threat. He has no allies and not really a strategic player. Challenge monsters don’t really win the game anymore. If I’m a smart player, is actually want to keep him around to keep my actual targets from winning immunity.
I know it was facepalm time.
Sol kinda did it himself. Kyle was the agreed target Then for some reason, during the whispering Sol said Sue. So they choose Sol. Sol was a stupid vote. Not a thred.
Overall thoughts on the season so far?
My wife and I say it is forgettable for the most part. I love the show, but this season has not gripped us and we see zero players we’d remember even a few months after this airs.
Pretty meh. Rome was memorable for the wrong reasons. Andy has had an arc, I suppose. None of the votes have seemed that strategically difficult, and the advantages have pretty much played themselves.
I did want to give kudos to Rachel for her shot-in-the-dark play in the previous episode. At the time she played it I suggested to my wife that maybe she was just using it to look for tells to see if she needed to play her idol. It was nice to see that confirmed this week. Pretty smart play, IMO.
As far as Sol getting the boot, he did seem to violate one of the core rules - if the vote isn’t you, don’t try to change the vote. The consensus seemed to be Kyle until he tried to flip it to Sue for no obvious reason.
I’d have to go back to confirm, but this is probably true. They are useful shields to have around at Final 5 and 6 where nobody wants them to make Final 3 so you get an easy vote (unless they win every challenge, which is pretty hard).
They are giving Teeny the winners edit, but we are just Okay with here. Sol was memorable as a Good Guy.
Yep.
I agree, in fact there are players that I still don’t know. I think it was last week that Gabe appeared for the first time, for me anyway. I don’t think I ever noticed him before!
Agreed.
I feel like we no longer get a lot of classic players like Rupert, Russell Hantz, etc.
I wonder, when they do their 50th anniversary of All Stars, will they even be able to pull from recent seasons?
My joke- is that when they mention a little known player is “who?”
My words exactly!
Going into the episode last week, Gabe had the 2nd most confessionals (37) of any of the players still in the game (behind Sam). If you didn’t know who Gabe was, it is not the show’s fault.
Rome had more confessionals (38) but he was voted out a couple weeks ago.
Here is a tally of the confessional count.
My theory – not borne out by any statistical analysis – is that if a player at this late stage is getting camera time for the first time, it’s because the editors have been saving their footage for the end. Because s/he will be a finalist.
I thought the “Sue Hates Kyle” montage was hilarious (and not something the editors usually do)
- Still loved the competitions.
- Was Sue’s face… melting?.. in the rain?
Other than that, meh episode. Didn’t really care.
Speaking of rain…I’ve noticed the contestants this season are sending a lot of time wearing sweatshirts. And I don’t recall any mentions of blistering heat, recently. Does the weather in Fiji vary that much from season to season?
After the reward competition, her face was encrusted with dirt for the rest of the episode. For whatever reason, she didn’t wash up. The rain just turned her face to mud.
In our house she is now know as Pigpen, after the Peanuts character.
I thought it was no big deal to give up their shot in the darks.
Looks like my wife and I weren’t the only one:
I think she has had extensive 'work" done.
She looks like the after picture from a before-after picture about botched plastic surgery.
Oh, and Teeny talking to the camera for about a half hour just went on and on and on. It is getting too much talky.
I was kind of surprised Jeff and the producers went for it. The shots in the dark are on of the few levers they have to bring suspense to an otherwise dull TC.
I figured there was almost zero chance it wasn’t Gabe this time, and without the SITD there wasn’t any real drama at all. They tried to gin up some with the Genevieve misdirection but there was no way the non-Tuku majority were going let a 4-strong alliance make it to the final-8.
Caroline and Kyle flipped to go along with it, but I don’t think they really had a choice in the matter.
I’m worried we are about to get a pretty "goat"y ending. Andy and Sue are definitely not seen as strong players (although Andy seems to think he is). Rachel has been on the outs most of the game, and only got saved by a random gift from Sol. Kyle is a dead man walking once he loses a challenge (although I thought that last time… maybe they’ll target Sam over him). Caroline seems to be kinda invisible.
I dunno, I have this terror of a Teeny, Sue, Andy final 3. Which would, I guess, explain why Teeny is getting so much screen time for the amount of game play she’s generating.
Maybe Genevieve sneaks in, but already being targeted isn’t a great sign. She doesn’t really have any allies from what I can tell.
