Ugh, looks like next season is Family Survivor. I hope it’s not as bad as family Amazing Race.
Any ideas for next season? “Blood vs. Water” sounds like some kind of twist involving family-member tribes to me.
Blood and water. So obviously, family members competing against each other.
Man, the also rans didn’t even get acknowledged. That’s cold.
Yeah, Family TAR was pretty awful.
I am guessing that each castaway is going to have a relative, hopefully on the other tribe.
Family vs Friends is my guess.
According to some internet sources, Philip was afraid of Hantz and asked them not to allow him back.
So they wasted time with the little girl with braces who was clearly not properly prepared for her spot, Boston frickin’ Rob and Rudy from season one, whose use of the word ‘queer’ is gonna’ piss some people off and Richard Hatch who, when Probst said he couldn’t be there live, I was sure they were going to cut to him in prison. (Is he out of stir or did they just let him film that little bit on the beach for his good behavior?) But they completely ignored the early cast-offs and Jeff didn’t even speak to a few of the jury members on stage. I would have thought that Eric, at least, deserved some attention.
They’ll probably include a Hantz just to make it completely unwatchable.
Mike’s comments at tribal council actually swayed me to vote for Dawn to win it. In terms of gathering intel and making the coldly calculating decisions to vote off your allies in order to stay in the game, Dawn did all the heavy lifting in her alliance of two with Cochran.
However, Cochran made a Howard Stern reference in one of his confessionals, so no complaints that he won it unanimously. (“It’s not fun, and it’s not funny.”)
CBS has been on a “scrawny, nerdy underdog wins it all” streak lately with their singles games, with Ian winning Big Brother and Cochran winning Survivor. That in stark contrast to the beefcake NHL players winning the doubles competition on The Amazing Race. Of course, the previous TAR season was won by a couple of incompetent scrawny underdogs, so it kind of fits.
I’m glad Cochran won, he definitely deserved it the most of the final 5. When he won immunity I was 99% sure he would win (though Dawn made a half-decent attempt at the final TC - funny how she managed to not be emotional at all, people like Amanda Kimmel could learn a lot). Surprised he ran the table though, figured Dawn would get a vote or two.
I really hope the next Survivor doesn’t involve family or friends. The show needs a twist, but family is not the way to do it and runs the risk of being an obvious jumping the shark moment.
I’m glad they didn’t let Brandon back, dude shouldn’t’ve been on the show a second time in the first place. I hope it was for a better reason than “Philip felt unsafe” though.
Dammit, there go my chances with Brenda
That tribal counsel was very entertaining; one of the better ones in recent memory.
Anyone know the timeframe? When was this actually filmed? Just wondering if Brenda was actually pregnant while she was playing. She’s expecting any day now and it was my impression that they actually left the island just a few months ago.
According to Wikipedia, it finished filming nearly a year ago on June 28, 2012, which is waaay longer than I expected. So obviously, she wasn’t pregnant–or anything close to it–during the filming.
Yeah, they even mentioned during the reunion that they filmed this season immediately after filming the previous season, which has been SOP for Survivor the past few years (filming two seasons back-to-back in the same location).
Reunion observations:
No comments yet on Malcolm’s “acting.” Dude needs to keep his day job, whatever that is. And lose the Fabio hair and pornstache.
It sounds like Philip just wanders the streets until someone recognizes him, then he milks it for all he can.
Brenda looked gorgeous, as did Andrea–though I liked Andrea’s island look better. Sherri looks better cleaned up and not starving. Dawn looked the most different–her face was much fuller/rounder.
I didn’t mind them not having all the other castaways on stage at the reunion. Most of them made very little impression except Corinne–and we saw her briefly in the audience.
I wonder what kind of writing Cochran wants to do. I enjoyed his confessionals a lot and I’d be interested in reading something by him.
I bet that once they made the wise decision to not have Brandon back, they just dumped the entire non-jury reunion to mask his absence.
I know they had to scramble to get another challenge in after Eric’s evacuation, and the house of cards challenge is always great, but I really didn’t like that the Reward for it was an advantage for the final IC. The final should always be as level a playing field as possible.
And apparently Boston Rob’s book is a real thing. Little cheesy of the producers to let him shill it on the reunion.
Actually, his BP was 100/80, which according to my RN wife is completely normal. Obviously he had something wrong with him, but it wasn’t blood pressure.
And I hate how they call the medical staff “Dr. Joe” and “Dr. Jen” and such. Makes me think of the ads for strip mall chiropractors. Especially since I’d guess they’re EMTs, not MDs.
I definitely didn’t see Hantz in the crowd.
Yeah, they film the seasons back to back now instead of taking a break. It just is the way they do it now. Cochran has been sitting on this thing for 11 months or so.
My guess is that the blood v water is a reference to families as others had said. I’m also guessing that Brandon and Russell are on it and that’s why they weren’t on the reunion show - they are currently filming or something like that.
On the reunion, Jeff said he was leaving today to start filming the next one. But I don’t see any way they’d invite Brandon back. Too many people would refuse to be on the show with him, for self-preservation reasons if nothing else. What’s he going to do next time he’s worried he’s being voted out - go after someone with a machete?
Glad that that boring and lopsided season is over with. The fans were completely screwed in that format, and it’s no surprise it turned out like it did.
*I was, once again, so frustrated with the reunion show that I turned it off with 15 minutes left. First of all, they put like 30 minutes of commercials in, then they focus on stupid things (the little girl who had nothing to say) instead of the PLAYERS. Or explaining why half the team members weren’t there. And why do they feel the need to put in all these video recaps during the reunion show? The only people watching are people who watched the show. Argh!
*I wish Brenda had just taken the high road and said how hurt she was about being used. I also wished she hadn’t lifted up her dress to expose her belly.
*Dawn looked like she packed on 30 or 40 pounds. I almost didn’t recognize her. I don’t believe her when she said she’s okay with how she played. I don’t believe she is, and I hope she gets some therapy.
*Reynold has a great wit, but he really does loves himself a lot. It really detracts from his good looks.
*Eddie. Who’s that?
*Andrea’s stock went way up. She has a great sense of humor and perspective, both at TC and the reunion show.
*Malcolm is in his element on Survivor. Out of his element, such as on The Bold & The Beautiful, he loses every bit of appeal. I see Whitewater Rafting Guide or counselor for Outward Bound kids in his future.
*Glad Cochran won. Hope fame doesn’t completely change him, because there’s nothing wrong with being a nerd.
*Philip is still delusional.
*Boston Rob was, by far, the most interesting person at the reunion show. How sad is that?
*Eric’s leaving wasn’t even remotely dramatic. Like Sherri, he was too vanilla to have even a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. His calling out Sherri for having no strategy, and basically no value, was sooooo ironic. I’m glad she put him in his place.
When I saw the clue for the next season, I thought “Vampires v. Humans.” Now THAT would be a season worth watching.
It was one of the better reunion shows in recent memory. I am so, so, so happy Cochrane won. When it came down to the final 3, I knew both Dawn and Sherri were toast – Dawn because of her game; Sherri because she never blinked the entire time. When only one person asks you something in the final TC, that’s saying something. I could see Cochrane doing some kind of Survivor after-show analysis, whether it’s for CBS or an independent webcast or even his own column online.
Malcolm needs to return to teaching. He could certainly do something like Outward Bound.
I felt the Brenda/Dawn apology was very contrived. I could see the producers prodding both of them to do it. OTOH maybe they both meant it, but it certainly didn’t appear that way (and congrats Brenda!)
Rudy Brosch is 80-something?!? Well, I didn’t realize he was in his 70s when he did Survivor. Then again, I’ve only been watching it the last 3-4 seasons.
Phillip is nuts, but he’s a loveable nut. I can see PunditLisa*'s reasoning for him wandering the streets because he did come off sounding that way. I hope that isn’t the case.
