True a bully and a hypocrite. Not only did he try to bully Tai into giving him the immunity idol on a rather condescending promise to take Tai to the final, he told Troyzan that he was going to vote Tai out at the next tribal. What an asshole!
I have to assume that all the arcane never-come-into-play-yet rules are documented in advance, right? In some fine print that the players probably never read?
With the Cerie vote, it would have made just as much sense for there to be a rule that said “to be voted out, you have to actually get a vote” and it goes to a re-vote if that happens. Similarly, what happens if there’s a tie in the Final. They can’t just make it up on the fly, because then Mark Burnett et al would be picking the winner.
No Parvati, no Coach and no Phillip please. I am a huge Survivor fan but I won’t these people again. Especially Coach. Yuck.
I had forgotten that Culpepper was a professional athlete, so I looked up his bio. Holy shit, he’s lots 100 lbs since his football days. Given that, and the time he played, I’m guessing he was 'roided up back in the day. That might have had some lingering effects.
Jeff said in this show that had there been a tie, the 3rd finalist (not in the tie) would join the jury and vote.
It would have had the same result been the same even if they had followed the regular rules. First the people who didn’t get votes (Brad, Troyzan and Cirie) would have to come to a consensus on who should go home. Obviously Cirie wouldn’t agree to consensus herself out, and everyone else is immune, so it would go to rocks. Since everyone else is immune, Cirie would be the only one drawing a rock.
I understand that; my question is: are these rules documented in advance? Did anybody have any idea what would happen to a player at TC, if everyone has immunity except one, (until it happened to Cirie)? For all we knew, Probst pulled that ruling out of his ass. He could just as easily (unless it was previously documented) had said “no eligible player has received any votes; therefore, we re-vote”.
Probst basically said they would normally re-vote, but it would be pointless as only Cirie could get any votes. So now we know what happens if the only people who get votes play an immunity idol.
Or…a rule suddenly appears that says that HII’s are only valid for one vote, not one entire TC.
He said early in the season that there would be no re-votes in case of a tie, but instead would go directly into deliberation. The only way there would be a re-vote is if they argued that everyone getting zero votes didn’t count as a tie.
I don’t think so, but it’s hard to say for sure. The only thing I can say is that several of the players did seem surprised, so I would assume they were hearing it for the first time. They all know about the “make fire rule” now, but IIRC that was a surprise for the players the first time it happened.
The rules are almost certainly documented somewhere ahead of time and not made up on the spot, since the show does have to follow USA game show laws. That doesn’t necessarily mean the contestants know them - the first tie resulting in going to rocks was a surprise to everyone IIRC.
Actually this was just one of the few seasons where they were used in any sort of meaningful way.
Sure, they would revote, and they could of, but it would be pointless. No one could vote for anyone but Cirie. That why Jeff said what he did.
Yeah, all they need a rule for is “What happens if all the votes are invalid due to HII plays?” which seems quite prudent with the number of HIIs they hand out. Doing a revote, with everyone who used an HII to be safe, seems like a perfectly valid solution to that event.
Note that there is precedence for the HII making you safe for the entire TC, just as recently as last season. Jay won the Immunity challenge, and Ken used an HII at tribal. He didn’t get any votes, but there was a 5-5 tie between Zeke and Hannah. They revoted, and it stayed 5-5, so they went to rocks. Jay, Zeke, Hannah and Ken were all exempt from the rock picking, so they’ve already established the HII power lasts beyond the vote that it was used in.
If they have 9 players on the jury, the final tribal could go 3-3-3.
Yes, they *could *have done a revote. But no one could have voted for anyone but Cirie, which is why Jeff did what he did. Thereby under any and all possible situations, Ciries gets voted off. They all had one person and only one persons name they could write down. There is no need for a rule.
They DO need a rule for the case of every vote being disqualified due to HIIs. And apparently they do have such a rule - revote, with everyone who played an HII being safe. In this particular instance, they didn’t bother with the revote, since Cirie was the only possible person to vote for. But if Troyzan hadn’t played his idol, they would have had to revote with Cirie & Troy being the only possible victims.
No, they dont need a special rule for this, as everyone with a HII is always safe for revotes.
If Troyzan hadnt played his idol, it would have been a Tied vote- 0 Cirie, 0 troyzan, which means a revote with all HII safe.
Ah, you’re right. Same thing would apply if only 2 HIIs were played and there were a ton of players left, but all the votes were for the 2 who used them.
Has there ever been a 3 or higher way tie? I don’t remember there ever being one.
