Survivor: Guatemala speculation (boxed spoilers from episode 1)

Ok time to type this as carefully as possible.

This first box isn’t really a spoiler, as it’s information from the preview videos on the Survivor website, but I’ll box it in case anyone likes to go in 100% fresh. There are apparently, as always, plenty of surprises in for the contestants this season, including that this will be the Hardest! Survivor! Ever! (just like every other season)

As for the other surprise (again, this is from the preview video on the survivor website, and I imagine the commercials on CBS):
Two of the “most popular survivors ever” will be returning. That’s all the info we’re given, so it’s not clear whether they’re going to be normal contestants or if they will be involved in some other way.

When I heard this I started trying to think of all the survivors who I’d consider “popular” that weren’t already featured on All Stars. Apparently, however, the cat is already out of the bag, with several TV sites (like TVguide.com) reporting the news. The returning Survivors are…
This spoiler is described in the box above, if you didn’t want to read that one, you don’t want to see this one.
Apparently it’s Bobby Jon and Stephenie from last season. I can’t find a direct link but it’s pretty widely reported according to the posters at TWoP. I’m not sure what I think about that. I guess I’m just glad it’s not Rob and Amber. :stuck_out_tongue:

From what I’ve read the producers apparently felt that BJ and Steph were great players, but got screwed over by the game last season, so they wanted to give them another shot. Ok, but isn’t that every survivor that’s ever been kicked off?

Ah well, I’m looking forward to it. See you back here Thursday night!
Ok if you didn’t read the above spoilers LEAVE THE THREAD NOW!

When is it starting?

This Thursday.

I’d like to see Rupert come back for something… I loved that guy

Who and who?

I read the first one, but not the second.

I like to “go in 100% fresh” as you say, but if it’s someone really annoying, like Rob and Amber or Johnny Fairplay, I’m going to be pissed. I liked Rupert enough in Pearl Islands, but had enough of him in All-Stars. I don’t want to see him, or even anyone who already won the million.
Is it someone from an earlier year or someone recent?

Any info about the new twists? The ads say there will be two twists this year, as opposed other years with (?) just one.
After watching the first season and Australia on ODL, I was reminded of a thread here recently (last spring?) where we came up with ideas to keep it new and exciting. I’d like to see them go to TC right after the Immunity Challenges, without a lot of time for sitting around and talking. Figure it out beforehand - and if that person you wanted to vote for wins immunity, too bad. Vote for someone else.

I’m also tired of them getting dumped off with one change of clothes. In Australia, you could really see how they all had a couple changes of clothes and even two or three pairs of shoes (boots and sneakers and sandals), plus bathing suits (and raincoats and fleece sweatshirts!), but in recent years, it must be really nasty after even just a week in the same t-shirt and shorts. And enough with the swimming competitions in their undies. Go back to letting them have a bathing suit and a change of clothes. Why live for 40+ days in the same clothes? Does that really add anything to the competition?

AGGGGRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHH

I was hoping Colby would get to come back!

I can understand:

Bobby Jon? One of the most popular players ever? Ah well, like you said Slacker, at least it isn’t Rob and Amber. Or Jonny Fairplay. Or Rupert. Although Rubert for a third time would have been preferable to a lot of the choices. I’d really like to see Dolphin Boy from last season come back (why can’t I ever remember his name?). Then again, I think that would be for purely superficial eye candy reasons on my part.

I wouldn’t mind him coming back too–only to remind all those hoodwinked the first and second time around what a huge tool he was.

Jeez, some people can’t help but hate anyone popular.

I’m excited about the premiere, but none too thrilled about the Return of the Damned, whoever they are. I thought the whole “Outcasts” thing back in Pearl Islands was a Very Bad Idea *, and I thought All-Stars was just too much **. These people already had a chance at the million – don’t they have jobs they’re supposed to be doing? (Okay, so a lot of them are model-actors, but still … tables need waiting, don’t they?) When and why did Viacom become the Welfare State of media conglomerates? (See: MTV and the career that some people have made out of “Read World/Road Rules Challenge.”) If I really wanted to see more of Ian-My-Beloved-Dolphin-Boy that badly, I would just stalk him, like any normal person would. I really wish reality show producers would stop recasting old contestants and let some new people on. Like me, for instance. I’d be happy to let them through money at me.

* = Although it did lead to the triumphant return of the scrumtatious Burton. But it also led to even more of Lil, which: ick.
** = Any amount of Richard Hatch is too much, though, isn’t it?

Yeah, I hate him because he’s popular. Not because he’s a bully, an entitlement baby, a self-absorbed whiner, and a mediocre player. You nailed it on the head.

Isn’t “hate” a bit strong?

You should ask RikWriter that–he’s the one who used the word first (though I should’ve put it in quotes in my response). I don’t hate Rupe. I just think he (based on his behavior on both Survivors; can’t speak for his Real Life personality) is a royal tool.

Wooo hoooo, tonight’s the night. Can’t wait to see what evil they have planned.

The President’s speaking tonight, so that may throw programming off. The bastard - doesn’t he know it’s Survivor night?!?

And CBS has been talking about the spoiler mentioned above in their ads. I caved and read both of them so I know who it’s supposed to be. It doesn’t look like either of them in the shadow profiles they show - but I guess that’s intentional.

And doesn’t he know that we don’t want to listen to him??

(Well, I don’t, at least.)

Soon some neo-con Doper will be in here showing this as another example of how the poor presidents gets no respect. OTOH, how cool would it be if CBS just said, “We will go with our regular line up.”

According to CBS.com the address is at 8:00 PM, after Survivor. Woot!

Survivor’s on at 8:00 here on the East Coast, so that would mean he’s on at 9:00 for us.

Yay! I’m so excited! New Survivor!
