Survivor! March 28, 2012

Tarzan is nasty! Ick.

Probst had some good line in the immunity challenge

Good reward challenge. Face down Leif? really?

Yeah, Leif’s an idiot.

None of these alliances seem all that strong. Is it new Manano vs. new Salani? Or is it still old Manano (Men) vs. old Salani (Women)? I hope next week it’s Everyone vs. Tarzan and his poop pants.

I’m just amazed that Tarzan is a doctor. I can’t imagine that Survivor is going to do his practice much help.

the poopy underwear was a bit disgusting.

Hey, it wasn’t poop, it was dirt. And besides, once he threw it in the pot with everything else, that would kill the microbes. Which there were any. If there weren’t, because it wasn’t poop, it was dirt.

The remark itself was funny enough, but I was truly tickled by Troyzan’s barely controlled yelp after Probst said it. I must have replayed that clip a dozen times and guffawed every single time.

While I’m here, I’ll go ahead and jump into the Tarzan gangbang and say that he is indeed a poopypantied blowhard. Of course, the editing didn’t help when he bent over and we the innocent viewers were subjected to the broadside view of his rump with what appeared to be possibly decaying tropical foliage sprouting out of it.

The men don’t seem to be very bright, they never should have agreed to send a man off and lose the 6 to 6 numerical tie. Now the women could easily decide to form a women’s alliance. The men no longer have that option. dumb dumb dumb

Man, Jonas was my early favorite. Barring the women taking over (and I think they’ll in-fight enough to keep that from happening), I’m moving Troyzan into that spot. He seems likeable, but not TOO likeable. He’s good at challenges, but not TOO good at challenges. And he has the idol. No one sees him as a threat right now, and he’s getting in to all the conversations.

Survivor/Odds of winning $1M/Odds of making final three

Jay 10-1 10-1
Christina 30-1 5-1
Kat 30-1 7-1
Michael 10-1 10-1
Leif 15-1 4-1
Chelsea 4-1 3-1
Troyzan 7-2 3-1
Alicia 25-1 4-1
Tarzan 30-1 4-1
Kim 7-2 3-1
Sabrina 4-1 4-1

The women who stayed on Salani the whole time (Kim, Kat, Sabrina, Chelsea) are in the driver’s seat. They have both the gender advantage (6-5) and the tribe advantage (7-4). Being able to switch between those alliances is huge. Kim also has an idol if I remember correctly. Troy is the only one who can really make a mess of it with his idol (and dear god, I hope he keeps it to himself instead of feeling like he needs to share it with someone else like everyone else in the history of this show).

I liked Jonas, though he didn’t really seem to be playing a game early beyond “as long as it’s not me” and ended up in a weak position because of it. And I’m not sure what his outburst at Tribal was intended to accomplish. Going against a potential ally (Mike) and going back on your tenative plan (“we can’t vote out Kat”) is never gonna work out. I wonder if he knew he was going and was just making a last-ditch effort.

The way I see it:
Good chance to win: Kim, Sabrina, Chelsea
Dark horse: Troy
Really dark horse: Jay
Along for the ride/playing for second: Kat, Alicia
Dead men walking: Leif, Tarzan

Not sure where to put Mike. He doesn’t seem as useless as Leif and Tarzan, but he’s likely to get voted out for being a physical threat and doesn’t seem to have the advantages that Troy (smart, idol) and Jay (personable, smarter than he looks) do.

Forgot Christina, but I’d put her in the “dead men walking” category. No one likes her and she doesn’t have any alliances.

I think Kim and Chelsea now have the best chance to win. Dumping the men and going for the all girl alliance is the better move. Then they don’t have to face strong male competition in crucial late immunity challenges. If the Salani women form a core alliance and bring the other women along they can pick off the men. At that point they need to stick together and vote out the Manono women (who didn’t stab the Salani men in the back). Of the four I think Kat is the best one to take to the jury. Likeable but juries don’t reward people who are along for the ride. Of the remaining three Sabrina seems the least popular so I see Kim and Chelsea both angling to go before the jury with the other 2. I could be wrong about Sabrina though. I give her the third best chance.

Am I the only one who would have gone looking for an immunity idol while the winners of the reward challenge were enjoying their feast? It seemed likely that would be the secret information. And when they got back there was a perfect opportunity to test your position in the game by seeing if your supposed allies would tell you what they learned.

Don’t know about the other women, but Kim’s take on it is new Salani vs. old and new Manono; she mentioned keeping Alicia and Christine around “in case we wind up needing a girls alliance,” so she’s looking at it strategically.

Agreed, and I think Kim in particular is the strongest contender.

I think Mike would be in same category as Jay; if he doesn’t get voted off as being a challenge threat, he might win a few and keep himself in the game. As for the dead men walking, I wonder if they’ll get further because they’d be easy non-votes for the final three. Of course, Tarzan seems to have ticked off quite a few of them at this point, so he might go simply because he’s frickin’ annoying as hell.

Jonas seemed to have been completely thrown by his under-the-radar strategy coming undone. He seemed genuinely shocked to hear his name had come up, and didn’t seem to grasp exactly why they decided to send him home. To be fair, he did have a valid point regarding Mike being a stronger competitor, but he failed to account for the “new” Salani alliance (loose as it may be).

It looks like Kim, Kat, Chelsea, and Sabrina will now use Alicia and Christina to their advantage when they need to do so - that is, when the “new Salani” alliance including Troy, Mike, and Jay needs to be broken up - which may be sooner rather than later, as 2sense makes a good point regarding getting rid of the men. Troy’s idol is obviously the monkey wrench there, and I too hope he tells no one about it.

I would just like to note how refreshing the show was without that little twerp Colton on it anymore.

Yeah, really, completely different show. Thank god.

I agree that Kim/Sab/Chelsea/Kat are clearly in the best position to go far, but I wonder if that won’t run out in a few weeks if that allegiance becomes clear. Say they vote out Leif and Christina the next two weeks. I imagine that Jay/Troyzan/Mike will fear becoming 5th/6th/7th (although Troyzan has an idol, so who knows) and try to flip the remaining New Manono members (Tarzan and Alicia?) to overthrow the girls–or at least take out a ringleader or two.

Basically, those four girls are in the best position right now (particularly Kim and Sab since they seem more capable of winning jury votes), but as a result, they’re undoubtedly going to be a target soon. It’s in their best interest to keep Tarzan around as long as possible. Because he’s such a loose cannon and his vote can’t be counted on, it’ll make it much harder to flip numbers around on them. Voting out Jonas was a great move.

What would happen if everyone who got votes against them (say Kim and Troyzan) used idols? I guess it would be an all-way time and everyone would vote again?

I think I’ve said this during every season, but I’ll say it again, in case the producers happen to check out this topic. This is the absolute perfect time to bring back a “knock each other out” challenge. It shows everyone where the new alliances are and always has a good effect on the game.

Jeff says Colby will not be invited back. Didn’t he say that about Jonny Fairplay?

You mean Colton. Colby was invited back twice.

I will be shocked if Colton isnt one of the survivors this fall.
