Survivor Seaon 33 Starts Tonight (Also RE: TAR)

I also have to hand it to Jay and Adam that they can be buddies and decent human beings to each other while completely acknowledging that within the game they are mortal enemies.

If Adam makes it to the finals, do you think he’ll tell the jury his mom has cancer?

Real world spoiler

Apparently she died back in May, and never got to see him on the show.

Are you kidding? 100% certain he will.

Who knows? That kind of blatant sympathy grab can backfire, especially if you’re trying to get votes from people who don’t actually like you personally.

I think if Jay (or Adam) lets it be known that his mom has cancer, he will be voted out just in case he plans to use it for sympathy.

I’m not sure if he would or not. As said, this can backfire. If he’s going up against David, I would to counter David’s (inevitable) narrative on personal growth.

If I was on the jury, I would like to think that I would be a gameplay focused juror (but I know it is so easy to armchair quarterback). I’m not sure I could respect somebody trying to play the sympathy card.

I love their interactions. “Hey I want to take you to the end, but I’m going to make you play your idol tonight.”

I believe Adam is being genuine every time he talks about his Mom, but part of me thinks that he told Jay so it can get to the jury without him having to bring it up.

I agree that he’s being completely genuine when he talks about her. He’s said multiple times that his Mom is a superfan, so I find it completely plausible that she told him ahead of time to use that information in whatever way helps his game the most. I see nothing wrong with him holding it and releasing it as he sees fit, my question was purely as to what do you think his strategy will be, and will it work?

Thanks, I had not thought to look it up. Very, very tough thing to live through.

I think it is hard to predict. If it were me, I would not lead with that. I’d try to get a read on the jury first. If they seem to be leaning towards respecting strong play then don’t mention it. If they seem to be oohing and aahing over David’s touching story of growth, than throw it out there.

I’ve been wondering how tonight’s episode will go, how the mechanics of it will work, I mean, with there still being six players. Generally they’ve had two eliminations and then the Final TC, but that would leave them with a Final Four, and I just think it would be awkward and too long to have four players giving final speeches and answering questions o the "each tell me about your cleverest move’ or whatever.

So, I’m wondering if there will be another player lost by some means other than voting out. I don’t think they’d have been able to resist giving it away if there’d been some medical evacuation… but what if a player gets pulled out at the last moment due to a family crisis? They’ve got two players with mothers who could unsurprisingly take a bad turn, or for that matter anyone else’s loved one could be in a car accident or something. If someone’s father, say, was injured to the point of likely dying … but expected to hang on long enough for the contestant to fly home to see them … I’d think the producer’s would have to tell the player and give them the option to go, wouldn’t they? Which would be a hell of a choice to land on someone so close to the end of the game.

This has been a good season - good challenges and gameplay, but a total lack of memorable characters. I can’t even remember anyone’s name. Usually, for good or bad, there is one or more standout contestants. Not this season.

It’s going to be day 37 anyway, so I think they planned on have this many people at this point. I’m guessing the legacy advantage will somehow come into play if three people need go home first.

I am very excited for tonight’s finale!!

LM- Got to disagree. I think this season had a lot of memorable characters.

David, Zeke, Michaela, Hannah, Jay and Adam are very memorable, and some have compelling stories.

This is one of the best season IMO.

I’m not happy with how the winner won. A disappointing end to a great season.

Adam’s mom won, not him.

I’m not convinced. I believe 2 of the final 3 were strong, and had a justifiable path to victory. Challenge wins, relationship strategies, and immunity idols had as much to do with getting these people to the end as their personal situations. Sure, it may have put the winner over the top but I believe the winner was the strongest of the final 3 and in the top 2 or 3 players this time around.

Next season looks good. Basically, an All-Star season.

Maybe, but I feel it contaminated his victory. I was really happy when he resisted when Jay left him an opening to mention it. I would have been more satisfied if it hadn’t happened.

I agree on that, and I am usually as cynical as can be on the emotional power grab. If I hadn’t been told the outcome a few weeks ago, I might have thought “prove it” when he told his sad story. Too many people use such situations to their advantage in insincere ways. In this case, though, I really feel for him, and I also believe he earned his victory and only David played as well.

I agree. He played a very strong game. Ken blew it because he destroyed his best and only argument which was absolute loyalty. Hannah, who I felt had no chance, did well in Final Tribal. But it is pretty hard to convince a jury of a different narrative than the one they had in their mind about her.
