Survivor Seaon 33 Starts Tonight (Also RE: TAR)

Ain’t it the truth!! Actually, I’m OK with the redheaded guy on the GenXers and one of the Millenials (can’t remember his name either), but the one who was strategizing. Otherwise, what a bunch of losers.

But still, I was glad to see Paul go. What a doofus. And did Dave say: If there are 3 Millenials and 2 GenXers, I’ll help get out the GenXer? Well, dude, they won’t need your help with those numbers…

Again, I have to say that as a Boomer, I find the GenXers to be old fogies. Especially Paul. And did I say he was a doofus?

Yeah, the Summit felt like filler. Especially since they tried to make it seem like a big deal. I really wish they’d go back to having separate reward and immunity challenges all the time… I know it’s a way to cut some budget, but compared to having all the staff flown out there and taking care of them for a month, a few more challenges can’t really be that much of a savings.

The texting bit Probst was talking about during TC was cringe-worthy. I really hope they merge soon and we can stop talking about the age setup.

Something tells me that the age situation will be highlighted after the merge, too.

My wife, who is in her 50s, types “U”. Who cares? Does this somehow define her as a person? What a dumb question. I’m with everyone else who is tired of this shtick. I’ve known older people who are lazy and entitled, and young people who are industrious and smart, and vice-versa. The stereotypes are artificial. (Though all the 20-somethings I work with are obsessed with Snapchat, which I find to be the stupidest thing ever. But I digress.:))

Great blindside. I really didn’t dislike Paul as a person, but his natural alpha-male nature was a poor fit for Survivor, and even he admitted that he couldn’t rein it in. And yeah, his response to the hypothetical male alliance question was a fatal mistake. I’m really interested to see how the tribe dynamics shake out now that he’s gone.

As for the summit, I think it was an interesting idea that maybe didn’t provide as much drama as the producers had hoped. They seemed to focus mostly on David’s meeting with Taylor, probably because nothing much else of note happened. They should have given them alcohol.

I thought the exchange between Hannah and Zeke in the opening moments was hilarious.

Z: I don’t wanna talk.
H: But I just want to …
Z: Go away.
H: But I just …
Z: Leave me alone.
H: But you…

good god woman! I would say “can’t you take a hint?” except no hints were involved.

Oh yes, I had totally forgotten about that. Hannah is so incredibly insecure she couldn’t bear the thought of Zeke not hearing her out right away. Was just thinking of her and not the fact that he might want to be left alone.

I think this is what makes the whole generations setup so annoying, that they clearly went out of their way to cast people who fit the stereotypes to an extreme. All the millenials are people who are “still finding themselves” and have younger or non-traditional jobs like bartender, snowboard instructor or homeless shelter manager. Meanwhile the Gen-X folks are all hard-working folks who are cops, lawyers, etc. Wouldn’t surprise me if “when you text, how do you write the word “you”?” was a question on the application.

I just realized I had already complained about the stereotypical casting. Does whinyness and forgetfulness make me a millenial or gen x?

On the one hand, I like playing the idol for others, it’s better than a blindside IMO. On the other hand, playing it to save a dumb player is, well, dumb. I think the deer in the headlights look is permanent.

Jebus, what a whiny little bitch Chris is. “Don’t talk to me now. Don’t talk about me. Come here and talk to me.”

Dave using his idol makes him a target next.

Yeah, but there’s a shuffle in the offing, according to the previews, so he may get lucky. Dave strikes me as more Millennial than GenX, anyway. He may fit in with the young’uns better than he does his current tribe.

I liked David’s move with the idol. It is not the best move in Survivor history or anything but from his perspective I think it was a good play. He believes, right or wrong, that he is near the bottom of the tribe. So this gives him a chance to bring people, like Jessica, over to Team David where he will no longer be on the bottom but in the power group. It was a gutsy move, and I hope it pays off for him.

My dad was cracking jokes about “how often do defense attorneys pull one over on her?”

Really love how what looked to be a fairly strong 6-3 split in the Purple tribe has completely shattered. David and Ken seemed to be a pair but David went out of his way to save Jessica, who Ken wanted gone after she snitched on him. Jessica has no allies left save David. Chris and Bret don’t trust the women now. Whole lotta fun.

Yeah, he was clearly thinking of the “big move” strategy - you need to be able to go to the jury and convince them you played the game hard, not just flew under the radar for 39 days. But he’s still got a long way to go, with no idol, few allies, and a bunch of pissed off tribemates.

Wasn’t Ken the one who started the “Get Lucy” out movement with David? After Lucy told Ken & David that Jess was the next target, she ordered them not to talk to anyone about it and warned them what would happen if they did. It was after that conversation that Ken started telling David “I don’t like being told who I can & can’t talk to.”

Yes, that really pissed Ken off. But then as soon as he told Jessica that Lucy planned on voting her out, Jessica told Lucy everything he said, which pissed Ken off even more, so he reverted to the “vote Jessica out” plan.

BTW, the votes were:

David: Lucy (as part of his dastardly idol plan)
Jessica: CeCe (because Lucy told her CeCe was the target)
CeCe: Lucy (?)
everyone else: Jessica

I’m not sure why CeCe voted for Lucy - I don’t remember her being involved in the discussions at all, so I thought she was just on the Jessica plan.
ETA: I think David expecting any sort of gratitude from Jessica is insane BTW. As Mark Twain said, “If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and man.”

David definitely told CeCe that they were voting for Lucy in a very hurried convo to avoid suspicion. Jessica is now going to be pretty loyal to Ken and David methinks, not just because of the great idol move but because Ken gave her a warning and she almost screwed everything up by doubting him and blabbing. She’ll feel guilty and stupid about that.

Who knows how David’s play will wash out in the near term - playah or goat? I’d hazard a guess, but I can’t even begin to figure this crew out.

At least they are back to separate reward and immunity challenges.

Yeah, and they were two good challenges. Wrestling your opponents in the surf is always fun (you have to wonder what kind of “Don’t try to drown anyone” rules they have in place), and the physical part of the immunity challenge was interesting, if ultimately pointless. I have to wonder about the decision to have two of the largest Gen Xers ride the chair, but as usually happens in the race/puzzle challenges the puzzle was all that mattered.

Well I think the same people who rode the chair were the hands on people for the puzzle part. So I don’t think “having the biggest guy in the chair” was part of the strategy so much as they wanted him working on the puzzle.

Yep.
