Yep. Jessica was going to be the one voted out, Ken/David tried to save her, and she blabbed to the rest of the tribe. She was only saved because David used the idol, so she was already on the bottom.
That was freaking intense.
Wow.
Holy crap that was an awesome episode!
Wow indeed. Once they got to rocks we were all rooting for Jessica to get screwed since she was the one who faltered on whether to flip or not… and lo and behold, she pulls the black rock. And then immediately broke down. No way she actually does jury trials as a DA, right??
Crazy two episodes last night.
This is definitely one of the better seasons. And it gets better when the narrative gets further away from Millennials vs GenX.
If you have self awareness as a neurotic, does that disqualify you as a neurotic? or crazy like a Fox?
IMO, Zeke, David, Hannah are coming back in a future season. Bret does like his beer. He has probably got semi-hammered in four episodes in a row. Merge, The Spa reward last week, and the two episodes last night.
Did anyone else think “He can’t be gay…he has a Boston accent!” or was that just me?
On one hand, I was thinking that it makes no sense for the 2 on the block at TC to suddenly be immune when they draw rocks. On the other hand…that gives the others a huge incentive to suddenly achieve consensus as to who should go home. So I guess the Rules Committee knew what they were doing.
Yeah, I think it was introduced as a powerful tie breaking mechanism. If the two people up for elimination just have to duel out with fire making then there’s no reason to change your vote - the guy you’re voting for might still go home.
And I know I’m bad for thinking it but when he came out to Zeke then they went on to discuss strategy I thought “what? No #gaymafia ?”
I’ve watched, I think every season and I don’t ever recall that happening. I know they’ve done rocks before, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them having to try and come to a consensus or they do a revote on the other members. I recall if there was a tie they would consider past votes and add them in. Whichever tribe member had the most overall votes got the boot. Does anyone else remember that? Has anyone ever seen the way it was done last night? That was wild.
The unanimous consensus seems new to me; I don’t recall ever seeing that part, either. And a nice touch, I might add.
Really, Jessica was no way going to win the season, I don’t care if she had the FTC skills of Johnny Cochrane (the OJ lawyer, not the whiny red-haired kid), so that was the perfect person to get dumped from picking rocks. Was pretty awesome.
Agreed, this is turning out to be a terrific season. But I liked it very early on.
I thought not only Boston accent… but cop. And I think that’s cool, FWIW. I’m guessing that gay alliance will form an unbreakable bond.
I remember them having mentioned this tiebreaker before but off the top of my head don’t recall if they actually got to the rock-drawing stage. To the wiki!

In Survivor: Cambodia (S31), they were down to six people left and it was a 3-3 tie, but both vote-getters had played HIIs so it was a 0-0 vote. On the revote both groups voted along alliance lines for a 3-3 vote. The same rule above was then explained (reach unanimous decision, or the vote-getters are immune and the rest draw rocks). Since two people had played HIIs, and the two vote-getters would be immune, and Spencer had (normal) immunity, Keith would be the only one drawing a rock and automatically would go home - so everyone reached the unanimous decision to vote out Kimmi.

In Blood vs. Water (S27) when they got down to six people, a 3-3 vote led to them drawing rocks (Ciera, Tyson, Katie, with Katie going home).
And of course the first rock draw was the infamous “purple rock draw” all the way back in Season 4, though that was a final 4 and they didn’t have the “the two vote getters are immune from drawing rocks” rule at the time. So it looks like tonight is only the second time they actually got to the rock-drawing stage with that rule (and one time where they reached a unanimous decision before rocks).
They would have gone to Rocks in the “South Pacific” Season. Season 23 It was the season with Ozzy and Coach coming back in different tribes. Sophie Clark was the winner. The first vote was a tie and in the second vote, Cochrane flipped on Team Ozzy.
So what are the circumstances that trigger the fire make off?
Final Four or fewer, because the revote structure doesn’t work then.
Oh, okay. So super rare that it’ll happen. Which is a shame, since it created one of the funniest scenes ever.
I’m not convinced. He’s lying about his occupation, I can see him lying about being gay so as to gain more trust with Zeke. Either way, I don’t think either of them has lost a single pound playing the game so far. ![]()
That was some good Survivor watching. And I have to admit now that Ken is mediocre in the challenges. Hannah and David are hilarious together: Don’t go neurotic on me… no, don’t YOU go neurotic on ME!!!
What the hell was going on with David playing the idol? He was presumably going to play it on himself or Hannah, but because Adam said “They were whispering about voting for Ken”, he uselessly played it on Ken instead? David really screwed the pooch this episode.
Nah, I know a few gay guys with Boston accents. Though I do admit it’s pretty damn funny. Don’t know any gay cops though.
I’m also loving this season for all the reasons mentioned, plus another one: Excellent challenge design. They’ve really stepped up their game coming up with new and interesting challenges with a lot of variety.
Still firmly on the David & Ken bandwagon. Another reason I like this season is that of the two “us and them” factions, the “them” faction (to me) of Keith et al is actually pretty likable. I don’t dislike the “other side” at all, which is unusual. I typically hate the side I’m rooting against, being the shallow reality show fan that I am.
Eh, while I think they’ve come up with some creative variations of the endurance challenges and “obstacle course + puzzle” challenges, I feel like they’re still staying in those bounds too much. I miss stuff like the yucky food eating, the auction (still time for that), the “run through the jungle and answer questions”, etc…
The problem with “obstacle course + puzzle” challenges, as Dalton Ross has pointed out many times, is balancing it. Even though we don’t see it on screen, the huge majority of those wind up being 10% race, 90% puzzle - some puzzles have taken over an hour to complete. This one appeared to be a good balance, but mostly by giving an incredibly easy puzzle - it was a freaking one dimensional line!
I know they only do it for reward, but I miss the “answer a question and cut your opponent’s rope” challenges, since they really show the underlying alliances. And the ones where they poll the players with questions about each other, “Who is the most annoying? Who is the laziest around camp?” then turn those into challenge questions are great as well.
In that last challenge, where they had maneuver thru a maze with the stick, I can’t believe that only the guy who won (Ray or Jay?) was using his other hand to feel around and see what he had to do. It should not have been that hard to locate the end with one hand and then work both hands towards each other. BTW, that guy just went from bottom of the barrel to a pretty decent power position. He may win the whole thing.
I still want to slap Taylor (aka, dumb surfer guy) every time they show his mug on the jury.
I can’t believe those idiots let it “go to rocks” at TC with so many chances otherwise.
