I don’t think the camp location has anything to do with the inability to start a fire.
Sure it does. For example, maybe driftwood and kindling are more onerous to gather on the Brawn beach. Or if food is scarcer there, they’re going to have less energy to even try to get a fire started. And finally, I read that just to get to the challenge sites, the tribe has to make a long uphill trek first. So by the time they reach the challenges their strength is already depleted, making it harder for them to win the all-important fire-making kits.
I think camp location is a huge factor, especially in the early days.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
So long eye candy, we hardly knew ye. And now I’m fully on the Beauty bandwagon, though I’m guessing only one more episode before they reshuffle into two tribes.
That ER doctor is insufferable, which makes it extra aggravating that he’s the one who got to stay.
I loved this one SO FREAKING MUCH! Both of them were clueless, digging their own graves with their tongues. And what was that afterspeech about? “The numbers didn’t lie to me. The people lied to me.” Duh. Have you never watched Survivor. Those numbers ARE people, which is why you can’t just manipulate them like you’re solving an equation.
I can’t wait to see Nobama’s interactions when they get back to camp next week…
A piece of trivia: Caleb faced that same “drag a ball up a wall avoiding holes” challenge in the Big Brother house. The only difference was that it was designed for two people, one on each end of the rope.
For some reason I can’t recall, he refused to compete, sitting on the sideline in order to ensure that his “partner” lost. Which was impressively stupid, since clearly it’s easier to coordinate both ends of the rope with your two hands than it is to coordinate with another person. Of course his partner won that challenge.
You know … that lady that is half crazed just might pull it off. She is one of the few who are actively thinking and planning to win. IMHO, that is one of the key factors that usually belongs to the winner.
I know she seems like a big old long shot. But I just have a feeling about her.
Please shoot me now?
Isn’t it interesting that the only tribe where a member hasn’t figured out where the Hidden Idol is, and how to get it, is the Brains?
I was thinking the same thing. And she was supposed to be from the BRAINS tribe???
As much as I was all set to hate Caleb from the beginning, he’s actually may favorite so far. He’s a total workhorse in the challenges, and seems to be very amiable around camp. He even gets along with Tai, who would drive me bananas after a few days. Maybe he’s just getting good editing at this stage…
Those numbers ARE people.
A very fine observation! I got a good LOL from that. Thank you.
IMO, it’s more than just interesting. I’ve never seen such a strange season where each tribe behaves in a way that seems nothing like the name of their tribe.
The Brains ain’t very smart.
The Beauties aren’t very pretty. Blondie should be on the beauty tribe. Shouldn’t she? I mean she is awfully annoying. But she still is very cute. She would be a fun date.
The Brawns are something else. But it sure don’t seem very Brawny to me.
I wonder if the producers are tying to have a little fun with the viewers. Maybe there is some kind of prize for people who figure out just what they are up to?
Back Story on Liz:
She was recommended to the Survivor producers by Stephen Fishbach (Tocantins and 2nd Chances). They were matched by one of the online dating sites.
They didn’t make “a connection” but they remained friends and he thought she would make a good contestant.
Liz and Faux-bama were absolutely clueless to the group dynamics.
It almost seemed like they were clueless that there even WERE such things as group dynamics. Their plan was basically, “Here, do this thing I tell you to do. Got it? Good. Oh, and try not to notice that both of us think we’re dramatically superior to all of you.”
Before this episode, I found Debbie pretty insufferable too, but I did a complete 180 on her after this one. She played Liz like a fiddle. Clearly her insufferableness isn’t 100% an act but she’s clearly got a plan underneath it, and she had no problem outright lying to Liz about the plan. Love it.
Liz and Peter completely deserved it too… it’s one thing to be cocky and self-assured with the camera, but then they actually went out of their way to strut in front of everyone at TC.
I think part of it is that no one has looked for it yet (at least that they’ve shown). Maybe because they all got into pairs, and none of the pairs was feeling in trouble (as both Tai and Alecia were).
Oh no. No. No. No.
Caleb is a decent guy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins.
His only problem is that it takes him a long time to catch on to things. He’s an interesting guy and he’s a good guy. He’s just not the brightest bleep in the blank.
I always liked Caleb. He doesn’t have one mean bone in his body. Very rare to find someone like that these days.
This is fair. As much as I dislike Caleb, he’s not mean, spiteful, petty, etc… In general, he’s a very nice guy.
(I dislike him for the combination of an ego to rival Steven Segal, creepy stalker tendencies, and being kind of stupid.)
What a brutal challenge. I wonder what time they started the challenge? IMO, TPTB push the contestants too hard. They didn’t need to bury those bags that deep. Some one is going to get seriously hurt.
Survivor: France had a contestant die in Cambodia, strangely enough, of a heart attack. It was on the first day of filming so he should have been properly hydrated and well fed.
Would not have thought that
Caleb
would the one evacuated.
Pollard/Jason were big douche-bags again this episode, but I was very impressed with Jason and how he took care of Cydney.
I wonder if they might dial back the brutality a little in future seasons in light of three (!) contestants needing medical in one challenge.
I actually kind of liked Alecia, but Brawn’s biggest mistake was not voting her off first. They would have been a stronger, more cohesive tribe and might not have lost half their members. Having said that, Jason and Scot were total dicks to her. Sadly, bullies have a history of going far in Survivor, so I don’t expect either of them to be leaving soon.
Jason’s speech about Alecia being a poor example for his daughters was pure bullshit. How would he react if someone treated his daughters as badly as he treated Alecia? Asshole.
Yeah, the bags either needed to be placed closer to the surface, or the circle made smaller. 45 minutes to dig bags is silly for a challenge like that, hot sun or not.
I wonder how much Brawn lies awake at night thinking “why didn’t we just keep Darnell?”
I thought tonight’s episode was one of the best in a while. It brought up a very important issue.
I was struck by the way that Alicia seemed to think that she was doing something courageous and good and people would be proud of her for standing up to Scott. But it turned out to be something bad.
All 3 other tribe members seemed to use that as a reason to vote her out.
I found that intriguing - a good life lesson. But I really don’t know just what the lesson is or how people can profit from that lesson in their daily lives.
I would guess that Alicia will look stunning at the Finale. Not that it will do her any good. But I"m guessing there is a good reason she is on the Beauty Tribe and we haven’t seen that reason yet.
I wonder whether anyone here believes Scott was being honest when he said he felt sorry for her. I can’t tell for sure.
I’ve been confused about the Alecia bullying since the beginning, and I’m honestly relieved that she’s finally gone. It seemed to me like the rest of the tribe immediately disliked her for not fitting their definition of brawn. It is a good lesson in in-group/out-group behaviors.
Sad to see Caleb go. He seemed like good people and I think he would’ve gone far. He will almost certainly make and appearance on future season, though.
