I only know one Edna. She is the daughter of Chinese immigrants.
It could be that Chinese, via Hong Kong, are more in tune with British names than American names, and that British names are more “conservative” than American. Notwithstanding the popularity of names like Emma, etc.
I find the old fashioned names refreshing. Especially in young people, regardless of their ancestry.

Edna has not been popular in Britain for decades. I cannot recall any Ednas, and I am in my fifties.
Dame Edna Everidge? Oh wait, s/he’s from Australia.
Not to mention fictional.
I’m hoping Brandon and Mikayla end up on RI together. That will make Brandon’s head assplode!
Alone, at night, with the Evil Temptress.

About Brandon- to his teammates- three words- “hide the machete”
Just caught up online.
The only reason I like RI is because it gives everyone a minimum of 3 shows of airtime.

This thread is practically drowning in smug. Consider this: suppose you are moving to China tomorrow and need to pick out Chinese names for your kids. Gotta have it for the paperwork. Needs to be written in Chinese, not English. Can’t change it once it’s submitted.
By a show of hands… how many of you know which Chinese names are “hip” and which are “old fashioned” and which are nonsense syllables and which are either synonymous with genitalia or slang curse words? Off the top of your head, do you even know even a single real name in Chinese?
How many people would choose horrible names at random, or something that coincidentally sounds like the original English name with a horrible meaning in Chinese or perhaps a dated name that happens to match a well-known celebrity or famous author from decades past? Would you even know the real Chinese name for a celebrity like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan or Michelle Yeoh? Assuming you didn’t look it up on the web, that is.
ETA: Richard (aka “Dick”) happened to be the name of a President that visited China.
I see absolutely nothing smug in this thread. Rather, I think your overly defensive response about how Americans wouldn’t be hip to Chinese culture is the exact point people are making , and the rest of the thread managed to do it in a much less smug way than you.
