Swearing in GD

This post from a topic in GD about the current debt ceiling proposal by the Republicans got a request from Marley23 to dial back the vitriol. I’m actually not here to complain about that, I think he was right. Reading the post again, it came off as a bit unnecessarily angry

However, I have a question. I thought that as long as I wasn’t directing it towards anyone on the boards, that such displays of emotion were ok, even in GD? I believe I had a GD-worthy point, that the Republicans in Congress were being cowardly, so I thought the language was acceptable. Can someone clarify? Thanks

Your understanding of the rules is correct. There’s no prohibition on swearing and you can pretty much say what you want about people who are not board members. I asked you to rein it in a little bit in the interest of civility. If people responded in kind (agreeing or disagreeing with you), the thread was going to turn into a Pitting. If you want to Pit Congressional Republicans over the debt ceiling issue, go for it. But the insults you were using there were a little too far over the top.
