Sweating out alcohol the next day?

Some guys at work claim that if you get drunk, you can “smell the alcohol in the person’s body sweat the next day”. Is this true and if so, what is the scientific basis for this?

I’ve had at least two friends that have had quite a bit to drink one night and had friends smell it in the morning. Keep in mind that they did not tell me how much they had or what time they stopped at. It may have still been on their breath.

I can vouch for this. It’s not like your sweat smells exactly like what you drank the night before, but it reminds you of it. It’s hard to explain. Hopefully someone will be along to explain the science.

Many things you eat and drink, if they are pungent enough, come out in your sweat. I recently discovered that after a weekend of lots of homemade curry, my sweat smelled like Vindaloo.

Running in formation you can always tell who was heavily drinking the night before. Any soldier knows this and there are some drinks with a particular aroma. Soju is one of them.
