Sweetest videogame-character outfits

Which video game characters are, in your opinion, best dressed?

Seeing as how most video game protagonists, if you get to see them in the third person, wear the same outfit throughout the whole game, a lot of them really stand out.

One of my favorites is Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 2. She has this sleeveless jacket with a WWII nose-art style image on the back, of a winged female angel holding an aircraft bomb, with the script “MADE IN HEAVEN” above.

Metal Gear Solid 3 has some of the best outfits ever.

The End has a ghillie suit covered in living leaves. (And a sweet pair of rubber-bottomed duck-style hunting boots.)

Ocelot has a military officer’s uniform with a Sam Brown belt, red gloves, knee-high riding-style boots with suprs, and a flamboyant scarf.

The Boss has an insanely badass “sneaking suit” which gets ripped open at the end of the game, partially revealing her breasts.

From the past, I remember the original Time Crisis main character had a leather jacket that said “LET ME LIVE” on the back. I think it also had a WWII style pinup girl or angel or something on it also. I always liked that.

The two player-characters of House Of The Dead II for Dreamcast, Gary and James, had no backstory or personalities whatsoever, but they did have badass suits. Gary’s was blue and James’s was light brown. They also drove around in a small white MG convertible.

What are your favorite video game character outfits?

That King person in Katamari Damacy!

…What?

Jade from Beyond Good and Evil and a conservative, yet alluringly cute outfit.

I think Leon from Resident Evil 4 looks like a complete badass with that leather jacket.

Is ‘Gary’ actually a young David Bowie?

The Starcraft 2 Marine. Nothing like a 250 pound armored exosceleton when you’re engaging in some masculine headstomping.

He does, and I was thoroughly pissed off that he lost the jacket for the rest of the game after his scuffle with Lord Saddler and that Spanish guy about 1/4 of the way into the game. But he does look badass after you get the Armored Vest, covered in straps and belts and armored plates.

Also - long before Master Chief and his overrated game and overly-built suit which gives him an unfair advantage - there was the Marathon Space Marine. He’s got the old Chief beat all to hell in the style department. (Aside - for those who played this game - weren’t those Compilers the scariest fucking game enemies of all time?)

Ivy.

The HEV suit, of course. It protects against gunfire, radiation, minor fractures, and aliens attempting to to insert their jaws into your face.

Although Gordon probably shouldn’t have picked it up at the beginning of Half-Life 2. He was immortal up until that point.

I nominate Dr. Strasse’s Uber Soldat (bottom), and sorceress Madamme Blavatsky from Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Jeeze…they’ve completely given up on any semblance of Ivy’s costumes making logical sense, huh?

On the other hand, I can’t mock too hard. On the ‘How does she not fall out of that?’ side of things, I like Tira’s first outfit from Soul Cal III. Practical? Not in the slightest. Nifty looking? Oh, yeah. (Scroll past the mocking of Ivy’s SCIV look for the pic, and a mocking thereof.)

On the more practical side, I adore Nel Zelpher’s player 2 outfit from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.

Pretty cool, somewhat like the suits that the Warhammer marines wear. I always though that the Firebat trumped the Marine somewhat in style and ferocity though (and I can’t find a decent picture of one either)

Makes me think about reinstalling Starcraft for a romp around again
