On my iphone, using OS7, and the podcast app., I can no longer swipe to delete episodes from the library, I have to go to edit, making this a two step process. Is there a setting I can change, or is this an engineered improvement?

Didn’t for me. Reboot solved it.
If you’re at the Now Playing screen with the podcast’s picture displayed and you press the Episodes button at the very top right (three dots & lines) you’ll get a list of that podcast’s downloaded episodes, but for some reason you can’t delete them from there. You have to go back to the main My Podcasts screen (with multiple podcast title pictures displayed), select one of them, and swipe & delete them from that list. Kind of confusing & annoying…
