Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live!
My favorite was the West Virginia mine collapsewhen she predicted the miners were living, but by living she meant dead. Word came in halfway through filming that the miners were dead after Sylvia had said she knew they were alive (as falsely reported) so she hemmed and hawed and showed how she really meant they were dead. Of course she still gets on the show.
What I don’t understand is why she hasn’t been busted for practicing medicine without a license. People will tell her about their health problems and she’ll say “Have your liver checked… I see a blockage in your liver…”. I suppose it’s wording; she can always come back and say “Hey, I’m not a doctor, and the fact I saw a blockage in her liver could mean my glasses were smudged” or some such.
I’m curious as to whether you’re serious here. Are you mocking the position that psychics are frauds?
How dare you sully the good, respectable profession of whoredom by linking it the the filth that is Sylvia Browne.
Right. Being a whore is difficult. You have to have some old man’s balls in your face and pretend you like it. All she does is make shit up and charge you $800 for it.
A controversial view in these parts, I’m sure!
People like Browne actually baffle me. How in the hell does she get away with it? Seriously? Are people just that stupid (the most likely explanation)? I can buy it from people who are desperate with grief. But thinking, rational human beings, the product of 200,000 years of collective experience, knowledge and instinct, fall for this total horseshit? Or at least tolerate it and not call her on her lies and save the bereaved some money? She should be run off the public stage in shame and disgust, not lauded as someone who even merits consideration.
It is my firm belief (and hope) that in a thousand years time future historians will dig up a tape of one of these charlatans performing their act and look upon it as we look upon lead face paint.
I read it as a reference to the South Park episode featuring Spears as a harbinger of a bountiful harvest.
Yeah, no shit. The fat freak charges $700 for a half-hour phone consult. I really need to get in on some of that action.
Maybe it’s time to pull the 65 bucks out of my tight ass and buy ianzin’s book. I’ve been wanting it for years. Might be the best investment I ever made. Hey! Maybe I do believe in magic!
Oooh—he has classes now!
In other threads he defends alternative medicine, admitting that most of it is woo but some of it is legitimate unrecognized medicine - which is a valid point to argue from - but I’m wondering if this indicates a more general credulity towards woo in that he’s criticizing us for scoffing at her.
