Are there any good books or web sites on symbolism? As in black and midnight are symbolic of death or the dodo is a symbol od stupidity.
I can only suggest the Dictionary of American Idioms, since many idiomatic expressions are based on such symbols. While you’re at the Amazon site, do a search on “symbolism”. You may find something closer to what you are looking for.
