Bought my first guitar in about forty-odd years last week–a pretty little Fender. And I remember some riffs and chords from my garage-band days, but my ragtag sheet music remnants contain a few chords that I used to play, but no longer remember. (What the hel’ls a Csus6, for example? Sadly, I used to know.) More broadly are there any sites that supply fingerings for all sorts of chords?
While I’m at it, are tablatures themselves generally available on-line for classic rock songs? Or must I re-buy the sheet music again?
Just go to YouTube. There are a dozen tutorials of varying degrees of professionalism and detail for pretty much anything you want to learn. Really, there are literally millions of guitar tutorials - chords, solos, picking patterns, strumming patterns – the whole thing. One of my favorite dudes is an aussie who goes by the name georgiarose16. He’s got an acoustic tutorial for every single Oasis song ever written. He has about 500 tutorials up.
I don’t really bother with tab anymore, unless it’s for flat out picking, someone like John Fahey maybe. There aren’t a lot of YouTube tutorials for that sort of thing.
Some of the tutorials are very cute, with split screens and chord shape diagrams and such. Others are hilariously inept but nonetheless sometimes useful for a solo or something. YouTube has completely changed the game for rank amateur guitar players like me.
