Today, a friend and I were talking about trying out Tabula Rasa. We are both avid WoW players and were thinking about giving it a shot. It looks good and we like the reviews, but we really won’t know how it is 'til we give it a try.
So yeah, I’m trying to mooch here.
If anyone here has two referrals to spare, I would greatly appreciate it, as well as any other thoughts on the game.
I have it but have not had time to play it much. Does it come with a few referrals? If you can tell me where to find them, they’re yours, I don’t know anyone who wants them.
I’ve been playing since open beta. For what it’s worth, I find the game to be very fun. It’s not deep, it’s not addictive, you probably won’t grow nearly as attached to your characters and their gear as you might in WoW, but it is a lot of fun.
And I say not addictive…last night I stayed up an hour after I should’ve been in bed going ‘One more thing to do, then I’ll log off…’ The usual curse of the MMO.
Anyone else want one? Apparently I can have up to 4 invites “out” at a time, and I’ve only used two for Lazlo and his buddy. They give you 3 free days of playing.
I’d like one! I’ve been wondering if their great experiment (game design as a function of game mechanics, rather than the other way around) would work.
PM me with an email address and I’ll get it out to you.
One more - any takers?
Oh, and if any of you decide to buy the game, can you please do whatever it takes to attribute it to my invite? I get a month of free play for any of you who sign up.
I’ve been playing (somewhat casually) since launch and am finding it quite fun. It seems to be a lot faster paced than other games I’ve played and a lot more casual-friendly (so far anyway).
I can hand out referrals too, if anyone wants one after Athena’s run out.
Bosstone, Athena - Which server(s) are you on? Maybe we should try to get enough people to start an SMDB clan.
Cassiopeia exclusively. I’ve been creating clones at the class branching points, but for my first run-through I’m on a straight track to Guardian (Recruit->Soldier->Commando->Guardian, for people not fully familiar with the game). If I played daily, I’d probably be up to level 25-30 by now, but as it is I just got to level 21 last night. I’m a solo artist, and managed to complete everything in Wilderness by myself a couple weeks ago. If you complete the Targets of Opportunity mission for a battlefield, you get Master of X as a title. Been running around happily with my Master of Wilderness title for a while now.
The game isn’t fully balanced, IMO; there’s no way a Specialist could solo what I’ve soloed as a Commando. However, I’ve been in situations where I’ve nearly died (20+ Thrax all pointing their guns at you hurts), and a Specialist came along and started fixing my armor. The Bane all died shortly thereafter. Commando and Specialist together are an insane force.
I’ve got a Specialist (only level 13; I’m fairly casual on playtime) on Cassiopeia and you’re right; there are things they just can’t take on by themselves. I’ve started leveling up a Soldier for that reason. Haven’t used a clone yet since I didn’t see any reason to do so at 5 since it takes less than an hour to get a new toon up to that level.
Specialists have their own fun though; if you continually fire your repair tool you can run straight past just about any collection of Bane and survive. I made it across Divide last night just by doing that. Good for collecting waypoints.
Well, I got to level 5 on Cassiopeia and level 6 on Orion since my friend had already started playing there. The action was great so far, but I just couldn’t get used to the interface. I was having trouble adapting to it acting like a FPS sometimes and a point and click mode when you opened your bags and whatnot.
Oh, and to answer your question, Zabali_Clawbane, it was the full 3 days.
It might help to think of them not as individual windows that happen to be on top of the still-active main window, but rather menus that happen to leave the main window visible. You’re not expected to have to open them in hostile areas, which is why the hotkeys for weapons and abilities are so accessible.
I adjusted to the interface right away, but it’s very similar to Planetside’s, which I played for a few years before this. Tabula Rasa draws a lot of inspiration from Planetside, which makes it weird that the similarity is never, ever mentioned in reviews.
