Taco Bell's Baja Gordita Sauce

My wife and I have often said, “It’s a good thing we can’t make the Baja Gortita sauce; otherwise, we’d die of heart attack’s in a week.”

We love it. It has to be unhealthy, of course.

Well, I found this recipe for it below. It’s not the official recipe, of course, but a clone recipe.

**1. Has anyone tried this recipe?

  1. Does anyone else love this sauce as much as us?

Here is the recipe. I’ll post again after we try it.

Baja Sauce Clone Recipe

I love the stuff. But can’t you buy it at the store now? I thought it was over in what they call the “ethnic” aisle. You know, between the spaghetti and the tacos.

I will check next time I am there but I would swear it. Please let me know if you make this and it turns out like the Taco Bell stuff. I would love to eat it. If it were socially acceptable I would drape myself in it.

Well, maybe that’s taking it a little too far. But I will make it next time I am at the store and can pick up a red pepper.

I’ll definitely be trying that at home.
I love the Baja sauce but what I really want is the old, discontinued Santa Fe sauce with the black beans and the corn kernels.

The Santa Fe Gordita was the best thing Taco Smell has ever made. And now, it’s gone. :frowning:

Ditto. I loved the ads they ran at the time with imperial music and somber vocals. “Flat bread cradles three…”

Alas, I don’t indulge in precious Baja sauce anymore. I’ve fully turned to the fresco-style dark side. Anything that can be fresco-styled gets the treatment when I order. I get a large calorie savings and I’ve developed a taste for their pico de gallo-inspired field rehydratable seasoned topping salsa. I haven’t been to TB in a while… maybe tomorrow?

Moving thread from IMHO to Chalupa Society.

I don’t know if they sell the sauce by itself in stores, but I’m sure it comes with the “make your own gordita” kit.

But if you’re looking for a reasonable replacement, Old El Paso DOES sell a stand-alone sauce called “zesty ranch,” or something similar, in the same part of the grocery store.

Well, we made it.

I have to say…it did not taste that much like the original. I’m surprised, having read the reviews on Recipe Czar. I may have messed up the recipe some, but not enough to totally change the taste.

It was good, however. We’ll certainly use it again, but it does not taste like the Baja sauce.

I forgot about this thread and now I’m jonesin Taco Smell. I had a stupid hot pocket for lunch. It’s a poor fucking substitute!

You’re not the only one to think that.
