Take a spin on the color wheel

I want to paint my office this weekend but I can’t decide what color to paint it. Currently it’s boring ol’ white. Well, off-white, along with lots of scuff marks. The previous owners of my house had almost every wall covered with photos and knick-knacks.

My wife and I like color in the house. We painted our kitchen yellow (“glad yellow,” to be exact), our living room and hallway green, and our spare bedroom blue. The colors really add character to each living space. I keep saying we should try orange in the office, but my wife gives me a funny look whenever I say that.

So what say you, my fellow Dopers? What color (or colors?) should I paint my office this weekend? Photos of the colors “in action” would be awesome!

I’d go with a velvety deep blue (almost purple) in matte. Scuff marks won’t be seen, and it would be very peaceful at night with several uplamps lit and beautiful white-matted artwork on the walls. Keep the ceiling white though.

Mango.

It’s kind of an orangish yellow, very warm and yummy and cheerful.

My sister and her husband painted a spare bedroom that color, and it’s gorgeous.

I like orange! Even if your wife doesn’t like the idea, I think she might find an orangish shade she could live with if she looked.

You know, what twickster said.

No color recommendations per se from me, but if you have a broadband connection, you can play with lots of color schemes here.

Electric Blue.

I used to have a bedroom painted that color.

Goes well with fluorescent (sp?) lighting.

Go with a deep green. We haven’t done that anywhere in our house, but I think it would be a nice color. Maybe not for a bedroom, though, if it’s small… the whole looking smaller and such…

I’ve always liked burgundy. The dark red adds a certain sort of intimacy and warmth to the room. It feels rather enclosed and private- which is the sort of feel I personally like in an office.
