In the new world, there will always be an exception to the rule. More importantly, there will always be somebody to tell you about the exception to the rule.
People who wear sunglasses indoors are assholes. That you have some random medical complaint known only to bats doesn’t change that one iota…
I know its cheating. I just wonder why anybody would really care? Simply because I believe if an opponent needs those crutches then they probably aren’t very good at poker. And I quite like people who are not good at poker.
So a player needs to consult an ipod to work things out? Good, thats information I am using.
So I know its cheating. I just wondered why it would be a bigger problem for somebody than hats and sunglasses. Well. I was wondering.
Welcome to my world. Actual physical pain from bright lights, hence the medical tint on my car windows. There never was need for anyone to warn me as a kid not to look at the sun… I can barely raise my eyes above the horizon on a bright summer day.
Likewise. If I am outside in the day time, I have on prescription shades. They stay on. When I go inside, or it is night time, I switch glasses, but even those have a red tint, because I hate seeing without a tint.
Anyone who wears dark shades indoors or at night is a cornball. Of course there are exceptions, but generally speaking…
High blood pressure is known only to bats? Funny, I think most would disagree. Beyond that walking away from someone during a conversation because of something they are wearing is rude (exceptions to this include KKK hoods and other grossly offensive outer wear) and makes the walker look like more of a douche than the person wearing the sunglasses.
For me it’s not just the electronic device, it’s the fact that you can use a lot of those things as a mirror.
Let’s say the guy puts his shiny black i-something on the table. When the player next to him him picks up a card, he may very well may be able to see that card in the reflection. There’s other ways to cheat with those things, too.
If a player “picks up his cards” in a casino he will be instructed to put them back on the table and told not to do it again. I doubt there is any way you could see anyone else’s cards reflected in a bigass iPod without being ridiculously conspicuous.
Yep, you shouldn’t do more than peek at your cards in poker or most other games. The general rule is one hand only. An interesting exception is in Pai-Gow Poker, where part of the fun at playing at a full table is picking your hand up, showing it off (or bitching about it) to the guy next to you, and so on.
Well, we don’t let the less-good golfers use illegal balls or drivers, do we? We don’t let poor scrabble players consult a dictionary during a tournament (except where allowed by the rules), I’m sure. Or kids in a spelling bee… you get the idea.
Math is a big part of the game, IMHO. If someone can’t do it, they shouldn’t be given a crutch.
He’s got to at least pick up the corners though, don’t he?
I don’t cheat, but I know enough card tricks and slight of hand stuff that I know mirrors are an advantage. The reason the iPod mirror thing came to my mind is that I was an accidental beneficiary of it once. I suppose the light was right, but I saw the corner of one guy’s card in the cellphone of the guy next to him.
There shouldn’t be any reflective surfaces around the table.
3/6 is often the smallest stakes you’ll find in a brick and mortar casino. I’ve played 2/4, but that was limit and it had a 3/6 half-kill pot triggered by two consecutive wins.
Hope this isn’t too much of a thread hijack, but what’s with the sunglasses-hate (other than the douche in OP’s post)? Is it some sort of US-only thing? I’ve often ended up with only my prescription sunglasses on me and I’d rather see a slightly darker world than fuzzy blurred mess, even at night. While some of my fellow Finns have sometimes mentioned about it, the only person IRL who sounded actually annoyed about it was originally from Florida.
So … is wearing sunglasses indoors or after dark some sort of huge faux pas on that side of the pond?
