Tales From The Bark Side: A Dog MMP

Evening all. Watched soccer and a movie (In Harm’s Way with John Wayne and Kirk Douglas, one of my all-time favorites) and have consumed my Mac-n-Cheese for dinner. Readin’ and Internettin’ will occupy the rest of the evening.

red, concur with nellie, just go in to the room relaxed and answer the questions honestly (well, not so honestly that they fire you…). You’ll do fine. And love the Nelson stories…are you thinking about bringing him to the meetup on the 26th?)

patik (backwards spelling of kitap), welcome and I have the same sign. I always try to make friends with dogs when I am refereeing soccer, figure I want somebody on my side…

OK, on with the evening. Everybody have fun tonight (Wang-Chunging tonight is optional).

GMTA. I made East Asian style tacos(chicken cooked in Thai curry paste, and served on naan with a radish/carrot/cucumber slaw and topped with fresh cilantro.)
And I saw what you did there.

:two_hearts: ((((hugs))))

Good luck, red!

The house down the road finally showed up on line. Most of the houses in this neighborhood are valued in the $300-360K range. The new listing is for $695K!!!:astonished:

I would be amazed if it sells quickly. Three years ago, after being on the market for over a year, it sold for $511K, after multiple price reductions. I don’t think it’s a good idea to be the most expensive house in the neighborhood. I know the market is hot, but is it that hot??? We shall see.

Please share the recipe. Please, please, please.

Red good luck!!

I’ve been upset the last day or two about SDMB, uh, politics, I guess it the way to say it. And last night I didn’t get much sleep. Then today a friend’s beloved (by me as well as her) dog died. So this evening I’ve been lying in bed watching the changing sky and listening to birdsong sounding sleepier and sleepier. It’s all very soothing. Once after surgery I spent an entire day watching the changing light out my picture window. It’s really incredible what goes on every day that we give only passing attention.

Feeling tranquil. Sweet dreams, sweet Mumpers…

Sleep tight, sweet nellie

always wondered if they was an actual wang chung"…today was only supposed to be 103…ended up being 106 …felines arent impressed …and apparently I annoy everyone around me simply by being me …

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my UPSiversary today.

No. {{{{shades}}}}

G’nite, nellie!

Alas, my dear, I fear that I must disappoint you terribly. For while original culinary masterpieces do exist at Casa de Wolfpup, the “famous beans” moniker was mere light-hearted badinage that now stands revealed as shameless hyperbole. For in truth, though I am aware that there are many marvelous authentic baked bean recipes, the secret ingredient around which Beans a la Wolfpup is built consists of a can of Heinz beans in tomato sauce. It is enhanced, however, by sauteeing half a chopped white onion in a tablespoon of olive oil in a heavy saucepan before adding the beans, then adding a few generous dollops of Bullseye hickory smoke barbecue sauce, and reducing over low heat. Humble as it is, it does work well with barbecued ribs and fries, or grilled sausages and mashed.

I will now go hang my head in shame at having led you on in such a fashion, building up your hopes with fanciful idyllic claims, only to have your dreams dashed to fragments by that most mundane of culinary accoutrements, to wit, a can of beans.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall procure comestibles. OYKW will go to the Pubic Sto’ and possibly the Food/Winn/Harvey’s/Dixie/Lion. I shall make a Sam’s run along with dealin’ with church janitor Junior Warden duties over to the church house. I shall be free of said duties in a mere seven months, btw. Sup shall be shrimpies 'n grits with roasted spare guts. YUM!

Pup I guarantee our sloth is Olympic caliber sloth. Add in the fact that we have a cee-mint pond, thus we qualify for both Summer and Winter Olympic sloth. Also you can claim that your baked bean recipe is original and world famous since you add stuff to the beans. My world famous Eyetalian Chikin is a bottle of Eyetalian dressin’ poured over a whole chikin, or chikin parts in the slow cooker.

{{{Nellie}}} just cause.

{{{shades}}} you do not annoy us. That’s my job in the MMP.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I must also, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, purtify and don acceptable bein’ amongst the public attire. Life can be so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Um, isn’t that how all bean recipes start? Do people actually bake beans from scratch?? No one I’ve ever known. No, you use plain, even generic, canned beans, then add your own magic touch! Among other things, I used to melt a couple of slices of American Cheese in mine, until FCD declared how much he hated them that way, the heathen!! So mostly now, I add onion and whatever BBQ sauce is closest, and maybe a dollop of ketchup. My MIL adds chopped green peppers. But we start with the modest can(s).

As soon as I deem it to be a reasonable hour - like 8:30-ish - I shall don grubbies, spray my arms and legs with insect repellent, and commence the mowage. Ditches first, along with other areas where the riding mower won’t go, then I’ll hop on ol’ John Deere and do the rest. And while I have the mower out, I’ll haul the wood scraps back into the woods and dump them to rot. THEN I can shower and dress respectably, more or less.

Beyond that, I have no plans. Oh, except we’re going to order Chinese for supper. FCD wanted it yesterday, but our place is closed on Tuesdays and after the last time we tried them, we’ve decided we don’t like the place in Leonardtown any more. Heck, maybe we’ll go eat out tonight, just for fun! Plus it’ll save the whopping $5 delivery fee!

I have to call my cable provider and raise a little ruckus. I returned my modem to them and I have a receipt showing they received it last month, but they’re charging me rental on it again. So I’ll die on hold waiting for someone there to correct it. Or maybe I can connect via chat - sometimes that works better.

So, as you see, another exciting day at FairyChatEstates! Happy Wednesday!!

I like how you think, swampy! And I bet your Eyetalian Chikin deserves to be world famous!

I dunno. I’ve certainly seen many recipes for baking them from scratch. Anyway I imagined something much more elaborate than what I actually do, bean-wise. I feel better now!

If any cable company, anywhere, ever gets anything right the first time, it’ll be a miracle.

Best of luck**, red!** Sometimes things that make us slightly uncomfortable turn out to be the best thing for us.

Yesterday was a long day and today will probably be longer. It was non-stop from the moment I signed onto my work computer. I keep telling myself I signed up for this. At any rate, I’m tired. I am hoping that today will contain FAR fewer fires and problems. My job would be so much easier if others could manage to do theirs. I spent all day working on HR and computer issues for various staff and program directors. Then there were two HOT data calls which I completed right away, requests for assistance from some of my national peers, meetings, and a myriad of other things. I guess it’s better than being bored with nothing to do, but I wouldn’t mind if it slowed just a bit. At many points yesterday, I was on a Teams call, while people were trying to simultaneously call me on Jabber, plus teams, while sending instant chats and emails. I had five chats, two email chains, and a call going on all at once at one point. It was crazy.

A former workmate is going to retire next month. We are the same age, share May birthdays, and worked together or in near proximity for YEARS before I left DoD. I keep thinking how lucky she is, but she has only herself to support, and, she’s scrimped, saved, and lived pretty frugally for a good many years now. She deserves it, but I admit to feeling a little jealous! I keep thinking how nice it would be to wake up knowing the day is mine and no longer being on someone’s clock or timetable. Now that we’re both vaccinated and COVID restrictions are easing up, we’re making plans to meet for some drinks and lunch or dinner. I hope it happens soon. She is one of the people I sorely miss talking with on a daily basis. She’s a dog lover just like me and has three at the moment.

Well, I suppose I should get that next cup of coffee and read the news.

No shame in fixing up beans. I do something similar. I’ll cut up four slices of bacon into little strips, fry them until the fat has been rendered, then add a diced up onion and sauté until translucent. I drop that in a casserole dish or the crock pot, and add two cans of Bush’s Baked Beans. Stir in a tablespoon of ketchup, a teaspoon of yellow mustard, and a tablespoon of brown sugar. Either slow cook for the afternoon, or bake at 300º for 90 minutes.

And now I want beans.

Morning all. Have rescued the newspaper from the clutches of the driveway and taken my medicine, so early morning duties are done. 74F heading for 85F and not a drop of rain to be seen. Tomorrow is my dental appointment, may have to write myself a note or two so I don’t forget about it…

Tried to put a stop on my newspaper for next week, it asked me to ID myself (I did), then asked for my e-mail and when I provided it, it said something like “we already have that e-mail, give us another”, which seems rather silly to me. Will try again today, then call them on it.

Taters, take care. I know that some folks don’t thing sitting at a desk and going to meeting is work, but when the fecal matter hits the rotating blade like that, it is exhausting in it’s own way.

FCM, good luck with the cable call. My bank helped me yesterday to change my password and today…the new one is not working. Not amused. Try again today then back to the phones…

nellie, be well. A little tranquility can go a long way.

OK, morning is progressing so I guess I need to, all y’all have a great hump day.

The day is beautiful outside so far - bright and cooler than yesterday, which was cooler than the day before. I do hope the world will slow down soon. Overlymom got a bit of a scare yesterday - she had her regular labs done and her coordinator called her (and then me, when she couldn’t get hold of her), commenting that she might want to go to the ER due to dangerously low sodium levels. Turns out that the dry mouth resulting from her radiation has caused her to drink so much water her electrolytes are very diluted. Happily she was given the go ahead to stay home, go about her business and just cut back on the liquids with the promise to get tested again later this week. Better than the ER, but not as good as no issues.

I’ve got to be way more disciplined about my sleep and food - I feel like I’m going to faceplant onto my keyboard at any moment. Do they sell non-medical slings to keep your head up?

Work was slow for a peak day, which is good since we were short handed. As usual. laundry time, then nap, then cocktails.

You started with a can of beans as an ingredient. You ended up with wolfpup’s Famous Baked Beans. :canned_food: :slightly_smiling_face:

Apparently it means "yellow belt " in Chinese

:grimacing: Yikes. I’d be hitting the office flask after that.

OK, maybe not non-medical, but I still needed to share this, because the mental image of someone using this to prevent keyboard faceplant just tickled me.

Mowage has been accomplished, and it took about 2 hours from moseying out to the shed to taking off my grubby shoes in the garage. I am now showered, shampooed, attired in clean shorts-n-t-shirt, and thinking about having some lunch. Then I may run to the dollar store to see if I can get a cheap digital clock to put under the TV. Since we’re on YoutubeTV, we don’t get the time on the screen and our TV doesn’t have that option. The analog clock on the wall above is at the wrong angle for me to see from my recliner and having to pick up my phone every time I want to know what time it is… sheesh!!! :stuck_out_tongue: Yeah, I know, first world problems.

Anyway, so goes my day thus far.

A-hem.

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I slept the clock around and am feeling good…still tranquil, but life has a way of fixing that. I have a way of fixing life’s fixing, and I should use it more: my balcony faces the woods behind me, and it’s peaceful out there, if you like the shouts and laughter of children in the park beyond, which I do.

I have a grocery delivery coming, mostly because I can’t fit a big pack of toilet paper or a case of sparkling water in the babushka cart. That and hitting the gym will be the big excitement for the day.

Boo, you’ve been awfully quiet about your Mundane Pointless Stuff lately. I hope that means all is well, a/c is cooling, pipes are plumbing, etc.

Taters, sorry you’re losing your workmate. I hope you get to see her often.

You say this like it’s a bad thing. I think those around you need a little annoying now and then. It’s for their own good.

wordy, they sell hard candies formulated to help with dry mouth. My dentist recommended them because dry mouth can mean more cavities. I’ll look up the name when I get a minute. Yay for no ER trip!

THANK you! I’ve wondered every time I’ve heard that song. Then I’d forget about it until the next time I heard it, which was–thank heavens–with decreasing frequency.

Awww. Sending you a hug so big, OYKW will look askance.
