Happy Birthday, Herbs!!

Hope you weren’t taking me too seriously. It was just mock outrage to defend my home state.

The cat caught *another *grasshopper at lunch and brought it inside. At least it means I’m getting good at the cup-and-card method of recatching the grasshoppers to rerelease them outside.

My mother knew a family whose daughter was killed in a horse vs. car accident. They’re big animals with legs just the right height that they sail through car windows and into the people inside. They’re often worse than deer vs. car accidents because they’re bigger animals and are (I’ve heard anyway) more similar to moose vs. car accidents.

Wow, the garbage truck driver has some serious rage issues. At every house, he’s slamming the cans violently against the truck. Good thing that the cans are A: Durable plastic and B: Owned by his employer. I’d be grumpy if he was smashing up a can that I had to buy.

just slammed today! But at least gotta say:

Happy Birfday, Herbs!

Also, gt, I would love to do an OP but it will have to wait until I get the pics from [del]my sister’s SO[/del] the official trip photographer. I’ll be most excited to do one then.

Many years ago, when living in the wilds of Jackson Hole, we passed the remains of a horse who lost out to a snow plow. Bloody mess. :frowning:

Back to the grindstone.

Tupug

Cow vs. car is also a disaster for car and driver. Plus, since cows are a domesticated animal, you don’t get to keep the meat cause the cow belongs to somebody. It does not matter that the cow got loose and was just standin’ in the road. I don’t know this personally but I do know of several people who’ve had car accidents involvin’ cows. Life in a rural area is just fraught with potential disaster!

I’m makin’ tollhouse cookies this evenin’. I have to because a sign was yay verily delivered unto me. I was makin’ out hamburgers to grill tomorrow night cause I’m all efficient and do stuff ahead of time. I needed some more bread crumbs, so I opened the cabinet to get some more and a package of chocolate chips fell out of the cabinet. Obviously a sign, right? So I took some buddah out of the freezer to thaw and soften and will make cookies later. Think I’ll even put in some chopped pecans just cause I have a metric buttload of frozen chopped pecans in the freezer.

Tonight is pizza night. It is being brought to me even.

That is all.

A friend of mine once hit a cow with his truck. Luckily he survived, but the cow went to the Big Pasture in the Sky while the truck went to the Big Garage in the Sky. It belonged to one of his neighbors, but it wasn’t my friend’s fault because the neighbor hadn’t mended his fence (which is how the cow got out in the first place).

Enlightenment cookies!

I was thinking pizza sounds like a good idea too. I’ll have to see if I can get KT to go along with that idea.

Can you send some cookies through the cd drive? Thanks!

Roasted chicken with apples and leeks and rosemary, courtesy of Real Simple magazine.

Hopefully it tastes as good as the picture looks!

Hope your birfday was good, Herbs!

Spaz it ain’t a cookie until it has obtained Nirvana. :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re having hotdogs cooked on the grill, with chili and cheese and onions. And macaroni salad. I have a metric buttload of grilling-type foods to use up! Last night I made jambalaya with chickenm, andouille sausage, and leftover ham. Soooo good. I gave a bunch to Mr Rebo to take to work - some of his co-workers are still without power.

The edit function works well for changing words to all caps.

How’s your birthday going, Herbs?

Just for that I have to mock beer.

Work has been very very busy this week.

Happy Birthday Herbs!!

Hats are cute, Mama T. Do you have pics of yours?

Hope you feel better Rosie

Too much work is not good for you Noonie

Cookies for me too Swampy

Had pizza for lunch. It was good. With the market so crazy the traders can’t leave their desks, so the high ups ordered lunch for everyone.

I’ve never had leeks. What do they taste like, Soapy?

I wish you much sleep tonight, Lili

I have, thankfully, never hit an animal of any sort.

Um, don’t remember what else, so appropriate comments to everyone else. Time to go!

Mmmmm… that sounds yummy, Soapy! Mind sticking some in the mail for me?

Actually, scratch that… I’m going out for pub food with Overly Needy Worrywart Friend, whom I haven’t seen in a while (as awful as it sounds, I just didn’t have the energy to deal with talking to her for the past few months, as it usually means hours of me reassuring her over something rather mundane and insignificant). I’m also meeting her new BF for the first time - hopefully he’ll have had a mellowing influence on her.

I think tonight’s outing will involve beer. LOTS of beer.

Leeks are major yum. They taste like very sweet, mild onions, more similar to chives, but even milder.

I make a Thanksgiving stuffing recipe with piles of fresh N.O. herbs, toasted white bread, crackers and tons of sliced leeks cooked in butter.

It’s my favorite leek recipe- and I love leeks!

Muppet- check your disk drive in about an hour!

Other than those carb-overload chip butties, I’m glad we’re all eating normal food in here.

There’s some freakish appetites out in the rest of the board - people are asking about eating shoes, glass and skin. Oh, and then there’s the water and sugar diet.

And that’s ignoring Cafe Society, where they’re eating lard, green tomatoes and fish tacos. At least those are all actually edible.

Today was a Deadline Day on a Really Big Project so I was expecting to have to stay late. Imagine my surprise when I was able to send the file out at 4:50! I’m going to go home and go ride my bike 'cause it’s really nice out, and who knows how many more nice days like this we’ll have! Have to enjoy it while it’s still warm!

Later!

Happy Tarra Day!!!

Slow, boring day at work till 5 minutes before quit time when a former project lead contacted me with some questions. He couldn’t have called an hour earlier… So I was a little late getting out. Then** FCD **was late getting out, so we were late getting home. I don’t want to paint, but I really need to get down there and slap some white on the ceiling.

I was *coooooold *last night. Tonight, I’m putting an extra blanket on the bed. And the next time I change the sheets, I’m putting the electric mattress pad on. I wake up when I’m cold, and I need my beauty sleep!!!

Home. Happy Day, Tarragon.

Got call at work. #1 son couldn’t find MiniCooper key to take #2 son to soccer practice. Told to call TH. Call–TH says no clue. Argh. Bad traffic on way home due to messed up Indiana highway. Stupid Hoosiers. Get off highway to find eastbound people getting off at my exit to avoid major mess ahead. Long time to get home, in town. Get home. Send boys off to soccer. Find key in pocket of TH’s shorts. Considering beheading TH upon his arrival home. Dinner in oven. Must get #2 son back from soccer, then on to parent night at HS. PN involves walking from campus to campus (actually north and south ends) due to #1 son having to change building so much. Work tomorrow. Tired.

Gah.

Well, I know what I’m makin’ next time I have company over!

Spaz that letter was so totally made up! I think I’ll start writing letters to Dear Abby. When they appear I’ll alert you.

Pizza was teh yum! We haven’t had pizza in a while so it was really good. The enlightened cookies of Nirvana will get made tomorrow. The buddah still ain’t soft, so I fridged it and will take it out tomorrow mornin’ to soften up. Since tomorrow is work from home day I can take a break to make cookies. What? Tollhouse cookies are easy to make.

Leeks make me <snerk>. Especially when it’s <snerk> leek <snerk> soup.

I’m not sure I want to know what <snerk>ing is!

The chicken was really good!

6-8 drumsticks and thighs
4 small crisp apples cored and quartered (Empire or Braeburn)
2 leeks, white and light green parts only, quartered
6 small sprigs rosemary
2 tbl olive oil
salt and pepper

Toss all ingredients in a rimmed baking sheet or large roasting pan

Bake at 400F until crispy and done, about 55 minutes.

Major yum.

I’m home. And tired.

Not much else to say.
