Talk me into or out of doing a marathon this year!

Not being an ass at all.

I am pretty slow.

Short and with a relatively long trunk so even shorter legs. Not built for sports. Marathon race I wrote “slow” on the front of my shirt and “but stubborn” on the back. People would call out “go slow!” and I’d answer “I am!” And they’d I get a laugh when they read the back.

If I do this I’d love to hit or beat my time from years back, proving to my self that in the competition against time I’m not yet losing the race.

That route map and field size looks SO MUCH more pleasant than Chicago. As soon as I saw that part of the route was on the bike trails, I figured it had to be a pretty small field. Rode good portions of that route last summer prepping for a century.

If you aren’t having any leg problems, and if your life is such that you can spend the time training, then go for it. A lot of my leg problems result from martial arts plus a fall down some steps. If I could still run, I assume I would. And I always imagined I would do more than 1 marathon - at least a 2d so I could refer to the “marathonS” I had run.

I play music with a guy who just turned 70, and still runs. Like I said, I’m 58, and am wondering how well I’ll even be able to WALK if I make it to 70. If your joints and all will tolerate it, go ahead. There are plenty of less healthy hobbies/habits you could participate in!
