My current lease for my apartment is up in Sept, and I’m looking for new digs.
I’m at a point in my life where I want to live comfortably in an upscale place and the housing market is as it is that such a place is now affordable to me.
The current complex that I’m in advertised itself as “Luxury” condominiums, and the one I moved into is just that: Stainless appliances, marble counter tops, fixtures and amenities out the wazoo. I love it.
The problem is that not all of the units are upgraded luxury units and are “$200” move-in specials. My last two neighbors were very loud and inconsiderate young folk, and generally made the “Luxury” part of my lease not seem that worth the extra money that I’m paying.
For my move in Sept, in my research I’ve found plenty of the above types of places. Standard apartment complexes with just upgraded units.
I don’t want that. With the risk of sounding elitist, I want a full-on upscale luxury pad that only other like-minded people want and do live at and mere mortals would be envious of.
My question is: where would I begin such a search? Where do affluent people find the ultimate bachelor pads?
Looking in Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and St. Pete.
Thank you all.
I don’t live in that area so I can’t help you with a specific place, but I would recommend searching for “gated community” or “gated complex” - nothing says being serious luxury like keeping out the rif-raff.
Have you checked out the newer condo towers in downtown St. Pete? Gov. Crist lived in one of those…prolly still does. Maybe also something along the Bayway/intracoastal down around Tierra Verde…that’s a beautiful area and definitely upscale. I don’t know Sarasota as well but I’m sure there are a lot of exclusive communities. A realtor could probably help you out; even if you’re not buying I think they do apartment searches and get a finders fee for placing someone.
Go with downtown St. Pete. There’s a slew of new high-rise condos there with some expensive price tags. All the better to look down your nose at the hoi polloi down on the streets. St. Pete nightlife is reportedly better than Tampa too.
I wish you the best of luck finding a place, but as far as noise goes, trashy poor people and trashy rich people are equally loud. Age has little to do with it as well; the loudest and most obnoxious people I’ve found are families who fight.
The best recommendation I have for a truly quiet living place is living in a place with old people, like an old retirement complex. I lived in a (rented) condo part of my time in college and it was dead silent. In fact, the first time I had a couple of friends over for a game of cards I received a nasty letter from my next door neighbor about the noise. All I had to do was close the door to the bedroom (we were in the living room, but I left the door to the bedroom and our shared wall open) and she couldn’t hear a thing, but you could honest to god hear a pin drop in the hallways.
