TAR 4/28: "Working Our Barrels Off"

When Joey & Meghan got U-Turned the first time, in Hanoi, they U-Turned Chuck & Wynona. Which all turned out to be meaningless, since it was the leg where the father/son team with the Achilles tear dropped out, so there was no elimination.

Maybe they need a rule that says teams can only be U-Turned once. I wonder how that would have played out this leg. They would not have been able to U-Turn Joey and Megan, so would they have U-Turned the country singers or left one of the U-Turns unused?

I also did not care for Joey, but I have to admire his positive attitude. No matter how far behind and no matter how challenging the task, he met it without complaint and often excitement. That’s an admireable trait.

I agree with this - the U-turn (or double U-turn) should occur early enough in the leg to give the victims at least a chance of fighting their way back into the race. It shouldn’t be a nearly automatic team-killer.

The strategy that it should be used on the last-place team (or whomever you think is the last place team) is self-evident. The goal of every leg save the last is make sure someone else comes in last place. If you use it on the team right behind you, when there are three more team behind them, you haven’t pushed back the time when the last place team checks into the Pit Stop. And that’s what you need to do: make sure the last team to check in is as late as possible, so that you have the largest margin of error you can manage.

I like this rule change. Seems only fair, especially since teams cannot u-turn others more than once.

Agreed.
