TAR 9: "Good Thing I Took That Human Anatomy Class in High School"

[li]Learn to drive stick.
[/li]Can do.

[li]Know how to say “fast, please!” in at least 10 languages, including Hindi.[/li]Good idea, but I dunno…“rapido!” seems to work pretty good everywhere.

[li]Never say “I QUIT!” or everyone on the SDMB will laugh at us.[/li]There should be a rule that any racer who says “I QUIT” more than five times in one leg, will be immediately disqualified.

[li]Do. Not. Molest. Phil![/li]Depending on what kind of shirt Phil’s wearing, this could be a problem…

[li]Sometimes, there are going to be extra pieces![/li]Man, that task was eeeeeeevil…I would still be there, trying to stick those extra blocks on that statue’s head or codpiece or something!

Re: Lake – I dunno, Lake’s becoming one of those villains I love to hate, *a la * Teri & Ian or The Weavers. He did have a disturbing, Jonathan-esque moment when he said about Fran, “She’s a doctor’s wife, she shouldn’t be talking back like that!” Ouch…

What’s really disturbing, however, is Monica’s Flo Moment in the preview for next week. I don’t even wanna THINK about where that’s gonna lead us…

Hi all, I’m here rooting for Team Nerd.

I’m concerned that for the last three Detours, one of the tasks has been pure luck – the Russian dolls, the German wine bottles, and the Italian laundry. The alternate task can give a team a chance to gain some ground, if they can do that task.

Would someone please check the order that people arrived at the fake pit stop in Red Square, and compare it to the Sicily pit stop? I have a bad feeling that the lists wouldn’t be too different.

Well, there was a pit stop in Munich in between Red Square and Sicily, and I know the order changed during the last leg.

One of the biggest complaints here is that there are too many places where the teams get bunched up; cafes or parks where all the teams are waiting by the time they open and any team that has built up a deserved lead sees it vanish. I don’t remember any artificial bunching in the last two legs. Teams that got to the airports first got the earliest flights (with one notable exception) and in some cases were airborne before the trailing teams got there.

I think laying out the legs of the race must be very tricky. If one team gets an insurmountable lead, there isn’t any suspense; so if there’s a train that only runs once a day, you pretty much have to be sure that everybody’s on it. On the other hand, every time they get bunched up, it stops feeling like one amazing race and becomes 13 mini races, with the prize going to whoever wins the last one.

According to the commercial for TAR that I just saw during Survivor, we’re moving timeslots again! Beginning this week, TAR will be on WEDNESDAYS AT 8pm. My TiVo hasn’t made the change yet, but this is official per the CBS website.

We saw that and wondered if it was permanent. I imagine the ratings are suffering from the late timeslot and that’s why they’re shuffling.

That or Out of Practice & Courting Alex died in the ratings last night. (They’re still listed on the CBS website as being on next week at 8, too. I’m sure that will change soon.)

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!! God freaking DAMMIT, I watch nothing else on Tuesday nights, whereas on Wednesday I have plans every week, tape Lost plus whatever ABC has following it, I’m not home to manually change the channel and my stupid fucking cable company has no way of letting me record two different channels without changing the channel on my cable box. Literally the only show I watch on CBS and they’re putting it on in one of only three completely unworkable timeslots the whole week that fucks me over. Un-freaking-real.

Hey, I understand – I have the same problem with Mondays. I TiVo the show every week; if you want, I can tape it for you and have it in the mail on Thursday morning. Unless that is currently illegal, in which case I have made no such offer and you’re making this whole post up.

I was just coming it to make sure rockle saw the time change. We can go back to going to bed early on Tuesdays!

According to the Fans of Reality TV forum, the show’s ratings have indeed dropped considerably. Probably because of the late time slot, and “The Unit” hasn’t been nearly as strong a lead-in as CBS hoped.

Changing the timeslot in mid-stream is a desperate move, though. With that, and the abortion of a Family Edition last year…CBS really is trying to kill this show, aren’t they? Seems like they excel at that. :frowning:

I think this change is a smart move. I think LAW & ORDER: SVU was probably the toughest competition TAR had in its Tuesday timeslot. Wednesday at 8/7pm is pretty much a wide-open arena right now. I think the strongest competition will come from DEAL OR NO DEAL which was very strong last week in its Monday version. But NBC could find itself with a MILLIONAIRE situation on its hands now that they’ve slotted DEAL in on three nights!

And I doubt that CBS is trying to kill TAR. It’s a multiple Emmy-winner! And it’s probably a cost-effective show as well. I think it will do just fine on Wednesday.

(And I used to be a television program director.)

A paragraph from this mornings “Hollywood Reporter”
March 31, 2006

‘Race’s’ new destination is Wednesday

“The Amazing Race” has come to the rescue at CBS, switching nights to replace a pair of faltering Wednesday sitcoms. The eye said Thursday that “Out of Practice” and “Courting Alex” are being benched after two ratings-anemic weeks running at 8-9 p.m. Wednesday. “Race” will move from its Tuesday 10 p.m. slot beginning Wednesday.

I know a lot of folks with kids, who’ve watched TAR as a family, have hated the change. Even TAR:FE’s Gaghan family has had to make Carissa wait till the next day to watch it on tape, so they’re very happy now with the change, as Tammy has said elsewhere online. (And speaking of Carissa, she’s writing a weekly column at Tarflies entitled “Carissa Explains It All” – of course – that is freaking hilarious!)

So I think the time change will improve the ratings considerably. Especially now that the Double Ds are gone and we hopefully don’t have any more tales of “tongue-swapping” going on. Ick, ick, ick.

Girl, you know it! I actually paused the TiVo and did a little happy dance when I saw that commercial last night. My husband is actually happy about the time change, too, for his own nefarious reasons that were alluded to last season and shall not be named at this time.

Guess where I’m going *right now * …

I don’t work on Wednesday nights! I don’t have to tape it! YAY!

is it 8pm-9 est or cst?? I’m good with it. Now I can watch *Frontline *if it’s any good, if not, go to bed at a decent time.

Wee Carissa…

*The Racers should have known Phil wasn’t going to eliminate them in Russia because there was no greeter on the mat with him.

Phil must have been really cold standing on the mat for so long. I wonder if he could leave to go to the bathroom or warm up.

I would pick Break It because the dance could take a long time to learn plus it is more fun to break things.*

Oh my god, those are too cute…

From Episode 3:
*I would have picked Scour It for my Detour because the nesting dolls are cool. My mom has a big nesting doll with a bottle of Vodka in it but I am not allowed to play with it. *

*Danielle said she was going to play the game with her boobs. I don’t get that at all. Maybe she thinks they will have a detour or roadblock where she will have to bounce. *

Carissa rocks!

*I would have picked Motorhead for my Detour because my dad is pretty good at putting stuff together except they might have had to beep out some of his words.

When Eric and Jeremy were talking to the girls at the bus station, I thought they said that the girls were snotty. When I played it again, I heard that they said “naughty”. I think the girls are nice.

I wonder if they have any Waffle Houses in Brazil. We had to stop there because some of the teams were going crazy on the bus.*
