Just wondering, since I have no tattoos and don’t follow the trends closely…
I have started to notice within the last year a lot of women have tattoos of what looks like poetry, either on their arm, or ribcage…
They are usually one or two lines, and the ribcage tattoos often run vertical, with the writing sideways, so you have to tilt your head to read it.
Does this particular style have a name? Does anyone know what I am referring to? here is an example of what I am referring to.. This is horizontal, obviously, so it is easier to read. But it is exactly what I have been seeing lately and am wondering about.
I’ve been seeing more and more of that as well. I’ve got a few tattoos, but have chosen to never put words (including names) on my body for a variety of reasons.
Most of what you’re seeing are song lyrics. The one you linked to are from 2Pac.
Having said that, words, in fonts like that, regardless of that they say, I do think look nice on girls.
Make sure the spelling gets checked beforehand, then it’s just a picture like any other picture. No freehanding. Plenty of mistakes happen with non-textual tattoos, they’re just less noticeable.
The first thing that comes to my mind is hipster version of tramp stamp. I wouldn’t judge anyone I met in real life if they had one, I’m just not into tattoos really; not even the one I have on my arm.
I see some Bible verses as well, and then quite a few general glurgey motivational slogans.
I confess to being a complete chickenshit in this regard. Not only do I have no text anywhere on my skin, I don’t even have anything that requires photorealism (faces, well-known symbols or logos, etc.).
I’ve got nothing against tattoos, with the exception of those on the neck, face and hands on people that represent our company.
I personally don’t have any, simply because there’s no image, phrase, etc. that I would want permanently on my skin. I look back over my life and see that I have changed considerably from when I was 18 to now, in fact, multiple times. And even those things that are still important to me now as then, are not in the same ranking of importance as they once were.
I’m actually with you here. I didn’t get any tattoos until I was over 30, in part because I didn’t want to get anything I ended up regretting. I now have two large tattoos: one is a design by my wife, and whatever happens between us in the future, I can’t see myself ever regretting her being such a deep and important part of my life. The other is a design associated with one of my favorite authors, a man who has been dead for decades and is therefore unlikely to do anything to embarrass me next week.
Taking this topic a little further, have Tattoo’s become more vogue lately? There are shows on TV now about Tattooing. Seems it used to be just rebels that got Tattoos, now it seems everyone is getting them.
People don’t want to ruin a perfectly good T-shirt?
I think it got more popular because years ago we started drawing on kids at carnivals. Never would have happened in my generation. My parents would not have allowed it except maybe on Halloween.
Apparently they’re called calligraphy tattoos. I’m certainly not an expert, but it seems like they may be a good choice for someone into tattoos as a fashion. They’re probably laid on lightly to keep them from blowing out, and as a result they may fade somewhat before smearing.
Some young female celebrities have tattoos like that, which probably contributed to the trend.
Where have you been for the last 20+ years? Did you seriously just notice that tattoos are more popular among the mainstream? Hell, my sorority sisters were getting little tats on their asses in 1992 and it was only barely remarkable.
Let’s see, here on the Planet Earth. I just said it is more vogue lately. I’m sorry I didn’t define lately for you. First half of my life, Tattoos not in. Second half of my life they are.
