Tattoos and Stretching

We all hear about pregnant women and tattoos and stuff. Well I’m embarking on losing a large amount of weight, and if I succeed I plan to get a tattoo as a reminder of it. I’m planning to get it around my bicep, and with my workout I’m planning to continue weight training and building muscle mass, so I want to find out how muscle mass stretches tattoos. Should I be worried?

How much skin stretches or doesn’t depends in part on your age. The older you are the less flexible your skin will be. I would suggest waiting until you have lost the weight and kept it off for a period of time. If you wind up with a LOT of excess, baggy skin you might want the excess removed prior to tattooing.

You didn’t say what sort of tattoo you wanted. If it’s a linear design, then stretching might not distort it as much as a pictorial tattoo.

It’s kind of hard to predict these things anyway, much less without seeing you or knowing what you want as a design.

Some tattoo artists are very knowledgable about this sort of thing, some are idiots. Buyer beware and all that.
