What kind of a weird state is New York? Where I live and in the vast bulk of the country no one is going is going to believe a 15 year old poor, black kid over a prosecuting attorney like Steve Pagones unless there is either corroborating witnesses or physical evidence.
There are probably some folks who will harass just because of the mentality Slithy Tove described. Most folks doubtless know he is innocent, but it only takes a handful of assholes to make your life miserable.
There are people who believe the moon landing was faked, Barack Obama was born in Kenya, aliens invaded New Mexico in 1947, and the CIA assassinated President Kennedy. People believe stupid things - tell them there’s a conspiracy that’s hiding the truth and the lack of evidence seems like proof to them.
See Maddox’s website that I linked to above. He continues to call Pagones “Tawana Brawley’s rapist.” He knows Pagones raped Brawley cause “she said he did.”
I saw a Phil Donohue program where he interviewed Maddox, Mason & Sharpton. When he asked them "Why was there no physical evidence of rape, he got three different answers:
Mason: There WAS physical evidence of rape.
Sharpton: Tawana was given a bath before the rape test was given.
Maddox: What color were the hospital employees who treated Brawley for rape?
As recently as 2007, Glenda Brawley was still publicly saying her daughter was raped and that she should be receiving money from somebody.
This reminds me of the lawsuit where an Irishman was being sued for damages to his neighbour’s lawnmower. His defence was founded on three points:

Wonder why her adult “advisors” aren’t being required to pay damages for the mess they stirred up?
