I’ve recently decided to spend a year teaching in Prague. I’ve found the perfect school - TEFL Worldwide Prague. Four week course, hands on training, dorms to live in. Sounds perfect.
The only problem is that all the info I have on this school comes FROM this school. They could be telling me anything! I’ve tried and tried to find someone with an independent opinion of this place, but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?
If anyone has any good stories about teaching English, I’d like to hear them too!
I taught English for two years in Budapest, Hungary. It was one of the coolest things I have ever done. There is a lot to do before taching oversees.
Find out what kind of training you will get beforehand. You should be informed about the culture, not only of your country but how schools operate over there. Language, health insurance, visas, housing, will you get help?
Find all of this out.
Ask the school to send you the contact information for present/recent past EFL teachers. If they refuse to give you this, that might be a sign of bad things to come. If they do give you it, jot a quick note to the teacher asking the basics like contact hours, training, is the salary enough to live on, what are the students like, etc.
