"Teams in the Toilet" - The 0-16 NFL Season Thread (2012 ed.)

I hate to say it, but my beloved Saints may be a contender here. That defense is full of epic fail. Can’t stop the run, can’t stop the pass, can’t pressure the QB, can’t get off the field.

We should consider renaming this the NFL Schadenfreud Thread.

Saints (0-3) - There’s no chance they go 0-16. There are too many weapons, and too many reasons to give them an excuse for a pathetic start to the season. The Chefs aren’t a horrendous team, and they took them to overtime. A few less sloppy mistakes, and they win that game. Nothing to see here.

Browns (0-3) - Good lord. It’s hard to evaluate any particular Browns team for being shitty, because 13 years of the modern day Browns all seem to run together in a giant shit stream of awfulness. There’s not a good chance on their schedule of backing into a win, unless the Colts just can’t put it together in a month.

Intentional?

On the other hand, their suspended players have a decent chance of coming back before the end of this season, and their offense is still good. They’ll definitely win a few games here and there.

The Browns, on the other hand, are both bad AND unlucky- I don’t think they’ll go winless (heck, I believe they’d have beaten the Eagles with Colt at QB), butthere’s a slim chance they could.

great googly moogly

Yup. I’m from KC and a Chiefs fan. I (and most of my family) refer to them as the Chefs as often as possible.

The Browns haven’t been completely blown out of a game yet, so I do think they’ll win a game or 2 or 3. Weeden has had flashes of…well, not brilliance, but something better than mediocrity. The defense will be much better when Haden comes back.

That wasn’t a terrible showing by the Browns last night - they’ll pick up some wins.

So it is now down to the Browns and the Saints…

Oakland was still on track, was it not? They sure got stomped today.

Saints fall to 0-4. At least they didn’t get blown out, which I thought was a distinct possibility at Green Bay.

They beat the Steelers last week.

Yeah, I jumped the gun a little, but I didn’t think they were coming back.

Wow - they did and it was way closer than I expected when I posted.

And now it is my lowly and lonely Clowns all alone with no wins.

Yeah, I was rooting for them yesterday, I hate to see any team go winless. (OK, it would be OK with me if the Jets did - but that is only because I hate Rex Ryan.)

The Browns will win a game or two this year. They are quite bad, but they’ll find one.

Remaining games for Cleveland:

Cincinnati (3-2)
@ Indianapolis (2-2)
San Diego (3-2)
Baltimore (4-1)
BYE
@ Dallas (2-2)
Pittsburgh (2-2)
@ Oakland (1-3)
Kansas City (1-4)
Washington (2-3)
@ Denver (2-3)
@ Pittsburgh (2-2)

At the very least, that stretch against the Raiders and Chefs should produce a win.

The Bengals sure didn’t look like anything special yesterday. Their defense is Ok, but Dalton had his worst game. Joe Haden is back and fresh this week, so the matchup between him and AJ Green should be entertaining. At home, I’m picking the Browns!
