This is total garbage. They have at least two viewpoints - hating gays and hating abortion. Standing for one doesn’t necessary make you stand for the other. Or are you suggesting that me being a Democrat automatically makes me pro-choice or pro-union? You are aware that people who closely identify with each other often have disagreeing viewpoints, right?
That’s almost as good as Mark Sanchez!
Or TJ Yates.
Or Mike Kruczek.
And neither Sanchez nor Yates (despite the 3 INTs) got embarrassed nearly as badly when they did lose.
I am amazed at how easily people will give him a pass on what he did simply because he plays football. Before that ad he was just an annoyingly religious but still decent and well meaning guy like say, Ned Flanders. Supporting focus on the family makes you a bad hateful person, there is simply no excuse for it.
I’m not giving him a pass because he plays football. I’m giving him a pass because he hasn’t supported Focus on the Family. They have supported him, but anyone who actually saw that ad will tell you there was nothing offensive about it.
I saw the ad, i watch the super bowl and there was something offensive about it.
What? Other than the fact that it probably wasn’t true.
How, specifically about FotF’s anti-homosexual agenda, was it offensive? To the pro-choice crowd, sure. But about their anti-gay stance? It didn’t even touch on the subject.
The focus on the family logo and website at the end of it.
It doesn’t have too, If it had been a KKK supported ad that said nothing bad about blacks would people still defend him?
FotF is not the Klan.
I don’t give a shit if he did do a commercial for the klan. He can’t complete more than 10 passes a game, any decent team will crush the option, and his defense and kicker carried him into the playoffs. He has the worst looking spiral ever seen in the NFL.
I can come up with any number of reasons why a klan ad would be offensive. Yet you’re still unable to come up with a reason beyond “there was something” that was offensive for the FotF ad. I have a pretty low threshold of expecations, but that doesn’t quite cut it.
There was a logo and website for a hate group in the ad, how is that not offensive?
They are no more comparable than my previous Boy Scout example. All those things you mention serve many purposes, FotF is a fundamentalist christian hate group. That defines them. There are many facets to being a fundamentalist hate group, yet this group serves one and only one purpose, to advance their fundamentalist agenda. Being anti-abortion and being anti-gay for them are not disparate concepts, they are both in the teachings of their twisted version of faith. They have a singular view point.
Get a new crutch, this one bores me.
Saying FotF has 2 view points is like saying the Klan has 2 view points, hating Jews and hating Blacks.
I can summarize “hating Jews” and “hating blacks” under the heading of “hating minorities”. I honestly think that “hating gays” and “hating abortion” are pretty distinct things, how would you consolidate them? (Honest question - I see it as comparable to two distinct planks of a political party’s agenda.)
FotF is a pretty deplorable organization, but to classify them as a hate group is extreme. I’d say that if the SPLC or FBI doesn’t think they’re a hate group, you’re being hyperbolic. And if you’re offended by seeing their URL on your TV screen, you need to go take a nap.
One is Antisemitism and one is White Supremacy. They are distinct concepts, and a person must not believe in one to necessarily believe in the other. However, to be a KKK member/supporter you must espouse both beliefs.
This is the same for anti-abortion and anti-gay. One must not necessarily believe both, however to be a member/supporter of FotF you must espouse both beliefs. Like with the Klan, their overall world view and extremism defines them, the specific platforms are merely incidental. You cannot pick and choose which Klan policies to adhere to, the Klan will not be accepting of a Black person who also happens to hate Jews. FotF would not be accepting of Tebow should he offer support to the gay right movement in spite of his agreement with their stance on abortion.
What are you basing this on?
And I could go on and on with repetitive posts calling Planned Parenthood a baby-killing murderous organization, akin to the regime of Idi Amin or (pick your evil). Just because I might say that over and over doesn’t necessarily make it so.
I might even object to their billboards or public service announcements, because everyone knows they only have 1 agenda plank, right? Killing babies. And anyone who supports them or appears in a TV ad for them supports baby-killing, right?
You don’t like Focus on the Family. I get that. You disagree with their organizational goals, which you seem think are only two-fold. I get that. They are still not a “hate group” even though you may hate them.
