99.985% sure it’s him. He even writes the same disjointed way.
Well, it may just be that he woke up to the bad impression he’s left on the board and the number of people who are laughing at Little Lord Moron Caller and wanted a fresh start rather than apologising and emptying his ignore list.
Won’t matter if he’s caught socking, both IDs will be banned, as will all future IDs.
For a first-time poster, he even knew to link to the Cecil column he was commenting on. That’s unusual around these parts.
Further evidence. Similar posting frequencies.

Busted.
Logging in from a layover.
So, if we suspect it’s a sock, what do we do, report it? Is there a Moderator procedure for addressing suspicions?
You’re right though: I’ll have to dig through their posts to find any cross-plagiarism for a smoking gun. The “modeling” comments have me highly suspicious.

Aw poor Sammy; you just don’t give up, do you?
PM me.
All y’all, we’ve got our work cut out for us. No doubt SamuelA/Vinyasi is watching this thread, but we need to conclusively pin the two together.

I wanna play the Jerry Orbach character.
How’s that work?
X__x ?
Seems an odd way of making a fresh start.
I dunno, I can see where you are coming from on this, but, as out there as Sammy often is, he just makes many assumptions about things we don’t know, and has far more optimism about being able to engineer things that are in fact within the realms of physically possible than is really justified.
This guy is talking about over unity devices, I don’t know that even Samuel would stoop that far down the rabbit hole.
It’s not what you know, it’s what you can prove that matters.
I don’t think Vinyasi is a sock for SamuelA, though I wouldn’t be totally surprised if he “discovered” him and started defending him!
For those not following this exciting development, this new poster (join date a couple of days ago, a reliable mark of quality) chooses to inform us at 4:43 AM the other morning why perpetual motion machines are real. Or something. I’m really not sure what he’s on about. He couches it as a question but it turns out that he already knows the answer. He also seems adept at moving the goalposts since the subsequent discussion seems to have little to do with his original question. In many ways this has SamuelA written all over it, but there are substantial differences.
[ul]
[li]I get the impression he thinks it’s self-evidently obvious that he’s a genius and is absolutely correct about everything. He doesn’t actually say this, but the implication is clear. So very reminiscent of dear Sammy.[/li][/ul]
[ul]
[li]Like SamuelA, this genius apparently attends the type of grad school that leaves him with an enormous amount of free time to haunt Internet boards with his amazing delusions. (I’m not sure about Vinyasi, but I suspect that SamuelA attends the kind of “grad school” where they try to teach basic remedial social skills, and where they keep haloperidol injections and strait jackets on hand. That would account for all the free time and the solid grounding he has in the sciences.)[/li][/ul]
[ul]
[li]SamuelA challenges experts in the computer and cognitive sciences; **Vinyasi **challenges both Cecil and the laws of thermodynamics. One difference, though: SamuelA states outright that all posters who disagree with him are ignoramuses (which turns out to be everybody in this thread, without exception) ; Vinyasi only implies it. Vinyasi seems in general far less obnoxious. I don’t think he has anyone on ignore yet.[/li][/ul]
[ul]
[li]The language and claims are oddly similar; to wit,[/li]SamuelA: [Explaining how the brain works] “… we have an established model that the brain is the effect of thousands of physical computational circuits … Also, the brain does branch statements, so it meets the definition of computation and always did.”
Vinyasi: [Explaining something that might be perpetual motion machines, but no one is sure] “Coherence must have a pre-existant energy to have something to boost … I can make more from less which is usually due to oversight of not making full use of all of the factors comprising wave mechanics that are available.”
[/ul]
Actually, I find Vinyasi more acceptable. He seems like a harmless crank, whereas SamuelA likes to meander between incoherence, irrelevance, and statements that are clearly factually flat-out wrong, and pepper the entirety of it with insults against absolutely everyone.
Excellent summary wolfpup. I’m still leaning sock. He rambles. He makes statements with no relationship to known science. My only niggling doubt at this point is that he did admit that someone else was right about something.
I just wanted to point out that our favorite pontificator still hasn’t moved on.
After consulting a Mod about things, I’ll admit I’m still on the fence whether SamuelA = Vinyasi. Not too sure yet, but I do know that earlier posts are correct: SamuelA is going to tell everyone how wrong they are, threaten to leave, and then keep an eye on the boards to see if there’s any fallout. Well, no, there’s no fallout. But I have a direct message for SamuelA when he looks at this thread:
Don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
Now that I am back home and have a day off, I’ll poke around Vinyasi to see if there’s any plagiarism between the two. That’ll be the kicker for me.

Hi Sammy!
It’s his verbal fingerprint.
Well, I’ll just note that the moment I asked V what the point of his thread was if he was just going to dismiss everything said to him, and ask the moderators to think about shutting down the thread for those reasons, he appears to have walked away.
Underlining mine. And Seconded.

Mods, can you close this train wreck?
Well, so I had to look. You guys “win”, I unhid and read every post you made after I left this thread. Temporarily.
All I have to say is, if you can’t tell the difference between me and an actual crank…well…I suppose it’s possible that I am also a crank.
It’s also possible that I am not, and “you all” are not knowledgeable enough/rational enough/intelligent enough to tell the difference. Except you, LSLGuy. And K9Friendfinder. But everyone else.
Doesn’t matter which. If you treat me like a crank, I’m not going to engage in a discussion, and I’m going to conclude that you’re the cranks here.
Thanks for the backhanded compliment, wolfpup. At least you know enough to know that I’m sticking to known physics. “Over unity” devices don’t work because the device isn’t increasing the entropy of the universe in some way. Or, another way to view them, any cyclical process that has no inputs but energy as a net output can’t run in a cycle, you can’t even napkin one down.
As a side note, the various “reactionless drives” the science press obsesses over would all be ‘over-unity’ devices if they worked. In the event that such device do work…and I doubt it, but if they did.…we’d need to do some serious new physics explaining.
Request to close came just a bit too soon, Tripler.
Well here’s the deal. If you have to believe that ‘everyone else’ is a crank, you’re the crank.
