Ted Cruz Presidential campaign discussion thread

Ha, that’s kinda funny, and especially weird hearing his voice out of the skinny teenage version of him, but I wouldn’t hold that video against him. I wouldn’t say he’s especially creepy there, just an obnoxious, sarcastic teenager. There are a lot of instances of him being much more creepy in a more serious way closer to today.

It’s definitely strange that his voice sounds so similar, but I too would not hold the content of his speech there against him now.

I’m not saying this video is the deciding factor in my not voting for Ted Cruz! Just that it’s disconcerting to hear that man’s voice discussing teen tits and world domination!

He was multi-tasking.

It does remind me of his college roommate, who has talked about how terrible Cruz was then:

1.

2.

There are many more. It is hilarious. Not a reason to vote one way or the other, but funny.

And so we see the beginning of politics in the ubiquitous-cameras-during-our-youth era. It will be fun (and a lot salacious) to watch.

Not that I’m in any position of celebrity, but I’m real glad I grew up before then.

“Backpfeifengesicht” is perfect! One does wonder how he managed to rise this high in spite of that.

It’s been about a half day since Rick Perry announced his endorsement of Cruz, and no comments yet from the SDMB?

According to sources, Perry stated that he is endorsing Cruz because 1) he is from Texas, 2) he is conservative, and 3).

Seems like a predictable endorsement, but Perry is weak sauce and a true dimwit, so this does not seem like a good boost for Cruz, especially since they share the same geography and demographic. Perry is delivering voters who are already voting for Cruz.

Compilation of associates who hate Ted Cruz. Mostly Republican.

Josh Marshall of TPM endorses the effort to pen, “the definitive Ted Cruz asshole florilegium (TCAF)”, but adds that, “Here at TPM we’ve opted for an iterative approach, in part because this is our traditional mode of coverage but also because of skepticism about whether, like topics such as ‘democracy’ or ‘modernism’, the literature may simply be too vast to be captured in any single monographic treatment.”

Heh. Love it.

Guys, I’m worried.

Foreign father, check.
Resented on his own side of the aisle, check.
Despised almost to the point of dehumanization on the other side of the aisle, check.
Almost seems to be regarded as vaguely Messianic by his fandom–wait, that’s typical cult of personality, never mind.

Is Ted Cruz the Republican Barack Obama?

Obama isn’t hated by his own party, he’s just not all that respected or feared either.

The whole “Oderint dum metuant” thing is more a Republican approach than a Democratic one anyway.

He’s probably not feared, but respected? Among Democrats, he’s highly respected – probably by far the most respected living Democratic politician.

The ones left, or the ones now unemployed?

All living, Mr. Snarky-Obama-Hater.

More than Bill Clinton? That’s a legitimate question. I’m an Obama supporter, voted for him twice, but I would have thought that Bill was held in higher regard.

Clinton didn’t get much respect either from Congress, but he was able to leverage the fact that Democrats didn’t always agree with him to win Republican support. The man was very skillful at playing both sides.

Bill is more well-liked. But I don’t know about more respected. Say what you want about Obama but there’s never been so much as a rumor that he couldn’t keep it in his pants.

But not respected enough that Democratic leaders won’t put him on mute when he calls.
