His allegiance remains unchanged regardless of his opinion on the matter. It is a sworn oath, not to be discarded like wilted lupines or a footman!
Bill Maher got in a great shot on Cruz in his Friday show. “You’re telling me you’re the real American? You’re from Canada and Cuba. You missed America twice!”. Bwahahahaha.
Maher also said he “always thought Cruz had the most punchable face” (until he saw Paul Ryan’s at the State of the Union speech…which, no: Cruz’s is still the champ).
Not to be left behind, the Jesus People have also found a dumb reason to reject him. He doesn’t tithe.
Has tithing always been about charitable giving? I understood it was giving to the church.
From the linked article.
Since when has tithing been determined by taxable income? Wasn’t it just by total income?
You know how "Christ, what an asshole" can be used for the caption for any New Yorker cartoon? That can also be used for pretty much anything Ted Cruz does. Because giving water is definitely a good thing, but of course he has to do it in the worst way.
I think tithing covers both church and charitable giving. I don’t remember the Bible saying a specific amount has to go to the church, but it’s very big on giving to the poor and needy, so I think giving to charity would apply there.
I don’t know about taxable or total income; as a longtime church goer, I don’t remember that being specified.
He’s been endorsed by a leader of what is basically a doomsday cult.
He also claims that he and his family do not have health insurance.
I’m no Cruz fan, but it really bothers me that the party elite are more interested in stopping Cruz than Trump. Maybe they just don’t think Trump can win anyway, but if they are actually more willing to have Trump than Cruz then the party truly is broken.
Wha?? Don’t senators get health plans?
That was part of the ACA. Members of Congress and their staffers no longer get government insurance. They need to get it on the exchanges, instead.
Cruz used to be covered under his wife’s insurance, but she quit her job to work on his campaign. Since she voluntarily quit, she is not eligible for COBRA coverage.
I should add that they do get government subsidies, but only if they buy a Gold level plan on the DC exchange.
I just posted about Ted Cruz in another thread. I’ll repost so Cruzites can check my facts:
Ted Cruz strongly opposes
[ul][li] Any gay rights[/li][li] women’s right to abortion[/li][li] the Violence Against Women Act[/li][li] any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants[/li][li] any measures making it easier to vote or register to vote[/li][li] green energy[/li][li] Social Security (he wants it privatized)[/li][li] the IRS (he wants it abolished)[/li][li] the Dept. of Education (he wants it abolished)[/li][li] the Federal Reserve system (he wants it “audited”)[/li][li] the “Death Tax” (he wants it abolished)[/li][li] any federal regulations related to energy or the environment.[/li]He thinks people who believe in AGW are “the equivalent of the flat-earthers.”
[li] United Nations Agenda 21. (he’s drunk the conspiracy-theory Kool-aid)[/li][/ul]
Ted Cruz strongly supports
[ul]
[li] Capital punishment. (His fellow law clerks were amazed at his focus on deathrow appeals, wallowing in grisly crime details rather than any legal issues.)[/li][li] A “flat tax.”[/li][li] A balanced budget amendment with 2/3 majority required for any tax hike[/li][li] increased military spending (despite the drastically reduced tax revenue :smack: )[/li][li] federal establishments favoring Christian religion[/li][/ul]
If Ted Cruz is an “orthodox” Republican I’d hate to imagine what an extremist is like.
And some Dems think he’s better than Trump because at least he doesn’t call illegal Mexican immigrants rapists.
Senator Richard Burr (R-North Carolina) says that if Cruz is the Republican nominee, he will support Bernie Sanders.
Coming from a place like NC that’s a brave stance. Goin’ big or goin home brave. Time will tell.
Maybe that’s the difference between ordinary people and those in his economic class, because I think most people would be concerned about the idea that they might no longer have health insurance. His attitude seemed to be, “Ho hum. I have no health insurance. But I’m not worried.”
I’m not usually one to hold a teenager’s words against him later in life, but 18 year old Ted Cruz is creepy as fuck.
