Ted Cruz Presidential campaign discussion thread

Founding Fathers didn’t have an immigration problem to deal with, as such. Not nearly so important as the churlish resistance of staunchly anti-immigrant groups like the Huron, Iroquois and Cree.

That’s funny because my family thought he was talking about Asians. I mean is there a more “other” group than Asians? We are also more likely to be Democrats than Jews, in fact blacks are the only group to tilt more Democrat than Asians so he was probably talking about Asians. Yep.

He specifically referenced all the prominent NYC politicos and none of them were Jewish. How do you get anti-Semitism out of that comment unless you are LOOKING for anti-Semitism?

Ted Cruz is an asshole but trying to portray him as a racist or a bigot is really just putting words into his mouth.

Goldman Sachs? You mean the historically Jewish investment bank (well 100 year ago at least) that his wife works for? Yeah, I bet he just hates them Jews

I would still point to the uncomfortable irony of the fact that the whole birther argument against Obama rested entirely on whether or not he was born in the U.S. or abroad. Cruz was born abroad, without a doubt.

I too was born abroad, the child of two American-born parents (and the grandchild of four American-born grandparents, if that matters), but have lived in the U.S. since I was six months old, except for a few short visits to Canada (and one to Jamaica) in childhood, and a total of eight or nine months that I spent overseas in my teens and twenties.

I remember wondering at about age ten if I was eligible to be president. I asked my friend’s dad, an attorney, and he said the question had never been resolved but he thought the odds were maybe 60-40 against me. I never really questioned it any further, so it’s interesting to see this all play out, with the howls of protest that it’s so “obvious” Cruz is eligible. Really?

Yep. He really thinks that the rich are better.

He can hate them and still accept their support. That actually makes him worse.

Birthers are, for the most part, racists. If Obama’s father had been a white exchange student, there would not have been a birther movement.

Indeed. But what would they think of Ted Cruz’s father? He only became a US citizen less than 5 years ago IIRC.

Do we really think that Ted Cruz is a bigot or is this just something we throw at every Republican candidate just to see if it sticks?

I have seen NO evidence that Ted Cruz is trying to rally the anti-semites or racists.

Iowa’s Republican Gov. Terry Branstad endorses everyone but Ted Cruz in the Iowa caucus.

Donald Trump likes this…

“Wow, the highly respected Governor of Iowa just stated that ‘Ted Cruz must be defeated.’ Big (shocker)! People do not like Ted.”

Of course, it’s about ethanol. There are so many better reasons to hate that man.

Yeah, but we don’t have to choose. If the bag isn’t big enough to hold all of them, get a bigger bag.

FWIW, I don’t think Cruz is playing racist or anti-Semitic dogwhistle politics with the NYC remarks. I think he is conjuring up an image of elitist white liberals more than anything.

Funny though what a Rohrschach test this is for some people!

Kinda like when libs rail against the Wall Street bankers and elite fat cat parasites destroying the economy. Better in the original German.

His father looks white.

It pretty much begins and ends there.

But what about someone born in one of Her Majesty’s realms and owing allegiance to Her Majesty until he renounced it just a year before running for President? You don’t think that might have got their satin knee-breeches in a knot?

Born of an American mother?

And frankly a history like that would have made it impossible to get elected back then when the electoral college actually meant the electoral college.

Iowa governor wants Ted Cruz defeated

Cruz (a “big oil” candidate) is opposed to the wind energy tax credit. He’s opposed to ethanol and biodiesel.

Sarah Palin just officially endorsed Trump. I’m no fan of hers, at all, but she has a lot of conservative followers. Cruz wouldn’t be in the senate w/o her help. This has to be a huge blow to Cruz’s chances in Iowa.

Jonathan Karl made an interesting point on ABC This Week about the “New York values” confrontation in the debate:
