Ted Cruz Presidential campaign discussion thread

Jewcred? Seriously?

He didn’t go because he knew that his thoughts on the matters under discussion would win him nothing in that room. Better to spend his time at a University rally somewhere.

I know a lot of Jews really don’t like it when a Jew disses Israel in any way. I once was intimately acquainted with a Jewish Palestinian-rights activist – death threats from Jews were a routine part of his life. (He’s dead now, but of natural causes.)

So if he really wanted to stand by his principles and risk his “Jewcred” he would have showed up and given his opinions.

Ted Cruz back on his usual rant that Obama hasn’t done anything about terrorism, let alone say the words radical Islam (he has, of course). What exactly would Cruz do different from Obama, who hasn’t found a drone target he didn’t like.

He’s said he wants to see if the desert will glow at night.

And directed carpet-bombing.

And at the same time I see people say “This is why we need Trump” when just YESTERDAY he said we should do less in the world.
I want to respond “Do you understand the words that are coming out of your mouth!”

I am Jewish on my mom’s side - a Jew for Jewish purposes - but I don’t have a Jewish name and I don’t practice any religion. I got into it on Facebook with someone who was more obviously Jewish about the Iranian nukes treaty.

I was respectful but made it known that while I was Jewish by blood, I thought Netanyahu was a warmongering neocon.

Right before blocking me, he said I was the kind of Jew they sent to the ovens.

So, yeah, there’s not some Jewish concensus or anything.

Two Jews were shipwrecked on a desert island. The first thing they did was build three temples. “You go to yours, I’ll go to mine, and we’ll both boycott that son-of-a-bitch on the hill.”

One of the many odd but amusing aspects of this campaign is seeing the GOP establishment extend their low wattage support to Ted Cruz, who after all isn’t really acceptable to them either.

Discussion on twitter:
Eric Rauchway, Economic Historian: "So Cruz is the guy to vote for to stop Trump. And with Cruz you get “Islamists run the US defense establishment” Cruz Adviser: Joe McCarthy Was Right! - TPM – Talking Points Memo … "

J. Bradford DeLong, Economic Historian, formerly of US Treasury Dept: “so why does anyone sane think Cruz > Trump?”

Eric Rauchway: I suppose the only credible argument is that Cruz isn’t Trump so voting for him in CA primary might stop either from getting nom

David Podhaskie, Legal Journalist: “@delong Think a lot of Repubs see the long-term danger a Trump nomination would bring to the Party. For them, any alternative is preferable.”

Rohrbach, Internet guy: “@delong @rauchway I think it’s a class thing. Trump is overtly vulgar. Cruz’ vulgarity is implied. Cruz has better manners.”
The GOP establishment would love to drop Trump and Cruz like a hot rock, if they only could.

Stay classy, Cruz.
Cruz Ad Slut-Shames Trump’s Wife

This will be fun to see how Trump responds.

Well to be fair, it is immensely hypocritical that many Trump supporters are the same people who complain that Michelle Obama wears sleeveless dresses.

Picture should be captioned “Anorexia: Not Even Once!”

Also, it objectifies women, degrades our civic discourse. denounce, renounce and condemn but the important thing to remember is both sides do it.

Trump’s response:

He then deleted the tweet and then reposted it.

I’ll reserve judgment until Hank Beecher tells me how I should feel.

This is an important topic, and the discourse has been quite Presidential. The SuperPAC running the ad is called Make America Awesome. I’m going to reserve judgement on this matter until Make America Wicked Good and Make America Amazeballs have a chance to release their research on the topic.

He revised the tweet to call Cruz “Lyin’ Ted”. He repeated his threat to “spill the beans” about Heidi Cruz. Ted Cruz countered that the ad was not from his campaign, and he called Trump a coward.

Serious men for serious times.

Noticed that Cruz didn’t actually condemn the ad.

I wonder what “beans” Trump thinks he has on Heidi Cruz. The speculation I’ve read is that it relates to her trouble adjusting to life in Texas…but I’ve already heard that about a dozen times and it’s not really all that bad.

Jeb Bush has endorsed Cruz. The entire Bush family has long expressed its disdain and contempt for Trump, so this is no surprise. And Kasich’s path grows yet narrower.
