Amen!
Where’s the damn football (and no, 2 seconds showing them getting blown out by Ajax, where Ted doesn’t know what a “friendly” is doesn’t count)!

There must be some sort of square or cube law about the number of people involved in a decision and the length of time required to come to a consensus. I was dreading that they’d pick watching a movie as their activity, and then have it devolve further into trying to pick the movie.
The scene was completely realistic, but not the most engaging of TV. It seemed like an SNL sketch that goes on too long. The concept is fine, the execution is even funny, but it needed to end three minutes earlier.
If this happens, I really hope that Ted earns it. Not just some random “I really miss you Ted, we’re moving to London!” Ted needs to properly reconcile by identifying and working on the problems that originally split up the relationship. I think the show has been pretty good about having the characters earn their growth, but some poor final act could really ruin it for me.
The season has hit the half way mark, and I’m starting to get that nervous feeling I get in the last half of the final book of a trilogy. There aren’t quite enough pages left to properly wrap up the story.
A big theme of the show is bad dads and Ted’s desire to do better by his son than his father did by him. So even if he doesn’t reconcile with Michelle, perhaps he moves back to Kansas so he can co-parent with her even if they’re not living together. (And was it unethical of the marriage counselor to hook up with Michelle after meeting her in sessions? Did he genuinely do everything he could to repair Ted and Michelle’s relationship?)
The earning it in this case is his being able to be real about what he feels, including negative emotions.
The constant cheerfulness, dishonest even to himself about his real emotions, was what pushed her away. Her reaction to his complaint about her relationship with their former couples therapist was the hint.
Best episode of the series.
I like the way jamie has eaten from the tree of knowledge
I don’t think so, but Rebecca still has the “thunder and lightning” part of the psychic’s predictions to look forward to. Since the other 3 predictions that have come true so far have all been related to men she has been romantically involved with (to varying degrees), it doesn’t seem like Ted will enter the chat. If that’s the direction they are going in, anyway.
So … Rebecca and Roy then?
I agree, but contrary to what some critics who haven’t watched the show complain about, I think the show has done a remarkable job at depicting depression and anxiety in somebody who is incessantly upbeat and cheerful. None of the characters are one dimensional.
No, Jamie and Roy. (I know it’s yet another take on the theme of parenthood, but ship them two!)
Rupert then maybe? Is there anyone else left we’ve seen? There was that waiter in the first episode with Sassy.
Maybe there’ll be a big storm at the West Ham - Richmond rematch.
Even though the episode was six or seven hours long, I liked the Butch Cassidy homage. Roy doing the Redford shrug was pretty funny.
I fast forwarded the boring parts and thus saw it in just about 3 hours.
Any idea what drug was in the tea?
What was the homage? Funny, because we just watched Butch/Sundance, and I didn’t note the homage.
Given that they made tea out of it, shrooms.
Bicycle montage to “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head”.
And before that, Roy is mimicking Sundance’s “I can’t swim” confession with his “I can’t ride a bike” admission.
Teah, I guess I heard a few notes of “Raindrops” and thought of the movie, but didn’t really think any more of it.
I remembered what I REALLY disliked was when they had Rebecca stupidly walking down the clearly marked bike path, not realizing why the bikers were ringing at her. I really dislike when shows have intelligent people - especially intelligent, capable women - acting stupidly just for romantic comedic purposes.
I DID appreciate seeing her less made up and not stuffed into one of her tight outfits. The actress is such a striking woman, but her character comes across so artificial and almost “pneumatic.”
They’ve been foreshadowing Rebecca getting pregnant and know we know who the father is. She’ll be set up with a dilemma of whether to raise the child on her own or try to reconnect with her Amsterdam fling.
In addition to Butch & Sundance, caught several Pulp Fiction shout-outs. The foot massage discussion, and then when Ted enters the American Bistro the same song is playing as when Vince and Mia walk into Jackrabbit Slim’s, and Ted is spinning around taking in all the sights just like Vince was.
You’re saying they slept together in this episode, or that you think they’ll get together again later? I thought this episode was pretty clear that they didn’t sleep together on the houseboat.
Eh, that’s an easy mistake to make if you’re not used to walking in cities with that sort of bike path. I kept making that exact mistake in Hamburg, because I just wasn’t used to having a section of the sidewalk set aside for bikes. I kept straying onto the bike path just because I wasn’t used to having to pay attention to where I was walking in that manner.
