Ted Lasso on Apple TV {Returns March 15, 2023}

I didn’t think they banged either. I do think that they’ll reconnect. Didn’t he have a kid? Maybe it’s stepmom for her.

That was my presumption. It was Chekov’s girl’s room.

We did not hear the words but very clearly meant for us to understand she is no longer fertile.

That was my take as well but they left it open.

Rebecca asked him if they did, and after a moment he told her no. But then after she left, he admitted to the camera that they did.

I took his subsequent musing to indicate that they did “make a connection/share a special moment”, rather than that they fucked and he lied to her. Don’t think anything gin their scenes would suggest he would be that dishonest with her.

I can’t understand anyone reading that otherwise. We even saw him putting a blanket over her and going into his room alone.

Stupid theory: Maybe Mr. Amsterdam was lying when he promised the tea he left out for Rebecca wasn’t drugged. The whole evening was just a hallucination of her getting out of her own head about everything.

That would neatly parallel Ted’s evening — Ted thinks his tea is drugged but actually it’s not and he comes up with total football; Rebecca thinks her tea isn’t drugged but actually it is and hallucinates the most romantic evening of her life.

I think thematically that would have been a neat juxtaposition, if only it didn’t have to put Rebecca in a serious druggy/rapey situation.

Yes that’s stupid

Rebecca will live happily ever after with the dutchman and be a marvellous stepmom.

Trent, will ghostwrite Colins coming out biography which will be a huge success

I thought this episode was maybe a C-, largely because I was fairly bored by Rebecca’s storyline, which was the main plot. It was just so twee and precious. She adorkably falls into a canal, and a charming man who lives in a charming residence is there to charmingly rescue her and charmingness ensues. Yawn. Seen it a zillion times.

I don’t see this happening. Rebecca will see the error of a long distance relationship, but also that she’s capable of finding something amazing.

Ted is also going to end up realizing his long distance relationship with his son isn’t working, but that he’s also capable of finding something amazing. There’s zero chance he ends up with his ex - that bridge is an ex-bridge.

I’d been lightly shipping Ted-Sassy ever since she turned up, but tbh I don’t think Ted needs a romantic partner for closure; he just needs closure.

I’d love to see a spinoff of Sassy in Kansas…

While I disagree about much in this post I completely concur that the relationship that matters for Ted to solidify is the one with his son, and the realization he needs to be present more than by video chat and a few visits.

What will be Nate’s arc? I presume he ends up replacing Ted as the team’s coach with less self-loathing?

And Coach Beard? His issue is not only the toxic relationship but his previous fear of any consistent romantic one. His friendship with Ted, following him to coach soccer, is the commitment in his life. That singular commitment is itself a bit pathological isn’t it?

Long distance? Its an hours flight (london -amsterdam)

Sure, why wouldn’t that be long distance? I’d think Rebecca would see a committed relationship as a cohabiting one. If you have to get to the airport, fly an hour to another country, and drive to their location, that’s not remotely the same as living in the daily life of your partner.

That is literally the definition of long distance when it comes to a relationship. Between getting to and from airports and dealing with security, it would take the better part of a day to meet up.

On the Eurostar train getting from London to Amsterdam is about 4 hours. Not exactly next door, but also no problem for a weekend, and probably less hassle than an airport. For somebody with money, the $500 for a good seat is also no big deal. Of course for somebody with money, a limo to the airport, hanging out for a bit in the first class lounge, and having a car waiting at the destination also isn’t going to be a big deal.

I think they can play that relationship however they want, and it will still fit in the bounds of reality.

Based on how the show handled the Roy and Keely relationship, I expect they won’t have two people getting together as a character’s happy ending. Based on the strong theme of parenthood, and fatherhood in particular, through out all of the show so far, I expect any kind of resolutions will be based around that. Maybe Ted’s son will come out to be the new equipment boy.

What does Rebecca actually have keeping her in London? She owns the team, but how much does that require her to be physically present? Her mother is there, I guess, but that’s hardly a draw.

It would be incredibly easy for Rebecca to effectively move to Amsterdam and shack up with Boat Dude. I kind of hope that’s what happens.

BTW, I loved this episode, but then again I also loved the Christmas episode. I love it when great TV shows aren’t afraid to be silly TV shows.

Of course they can get together and the expense is trivial. That’s not in dispute. It would still be a long distance relationship.

I don’t think that allows her to be much of a step-parent to the Dutch guy’s daughter and motherhood is a big part of her wishes.
