The street corner he was standing on in the original YouTube video is about four blocks from where I used to live, and I still drive by there on occasion. I would not swear under oath that I have seen that guy, but I have seen someone there that looks an awful lot like him. For what that’s worth.
Did anybody else think he was “some kinda furriner” when they first saw him? The teeth and the wild hair made him look less like an African-American and more like a guy who grew up in some war torn malnutrition ridden ridden Third World country.
You know, I’ve been ignoring this story because I assumed “Golden Radio Voice” meant “really good singer.” I was quite surprised when I actually saw the video.
I saw that, and the interview, and it was rather vague how much work they’re giving him. Doing their network promos probably doesn’t take up much time. He could probably do that and pick up a lot of freelance work too. He would be a great voice for movie trailers.
They put him up in a hotel when they brought him to … NY or DC? And he said he hadn’t slept in a decent bed for months and months.
9 (NINE) kids, huh? (By 6 different women?!?)
I hope the Homeless Hero dosen’t spend all of his newfound loot in one place, as I would imagine that each of his 9 (NINE) kids may need a few bux after all these years…
The interviews I’ve seen, he screwed up his life with drugs and alcohol, and has been sober for two years. Hopefully having been as low as it is possible to go, he’s going to keep it together, apply himself and take advantage of this opportunity.
I agree with the comment thatthis woman is the real hero of the Williams story: his ex-wife Patricia, who raised four children she had with him, one that he had with another woman, and saw to the adoption of two of his other kids. She took care of all these kids and held a job in spite of being legally blind. I hope he gives her a ton of back child support and just “thanks for not abandoning our kids like I did” money, and if he doesn’t I hope she sues.
I can see how Williams was quite the charmer back in the day, but with his current looks I don’t think he’ll ever be a ladies man again even if he earns $9 million.
Reuniting with his mother
(excuse me, I have something in my eye)
As an aside, that’s definately 71 and Hudson. I live near there.
i hope things go well. it looks like he went through a total makeover from the first video that was taken to when he started doing interviews.
perhaps because he has hit the bottom, he will take all the help being extended and do well. a good story for the tough times we are in.
I hope for his sake that he has some intelligence and depth to go with the voice. I would hate to see him interview the President and only be able to say, “and we’ll be back right after these messages”.
I think there are plenty of opportunities out there in voice-over work for someone who has zero intelligence or depth. Although certainly it would be helpful if he did have those things.
You underestimate the power of $9M.
His commercial is on youtube and so is the special making of footage
It sounds like Williams has a really good AA Sponsor. This guy has been trying to lure him back to professional work for awhile. I guess it took awhile of sobriety before Williams was ready.
Wow, Williams mom ripped him a new one on tv!!! That is one tough lady.
Her first words? Don’t disappoint me. She was all pissed to hear he was embarrassing the family, holding that sign. She just kept going on and on. I can only imagine what she says off camera. I had a aunt like that as a kid. Every word out of her mouth about anyone was a sharp lecture about something. She never acknowledge any thing good from anyone. She always got the last word in any conversation. Poor Williams looked like he wanted to hide under the chair by Meredith.
Still, I’m sure Williams is thankful to see his mom after all these years.

A close friend of mine from high school finally joined AA a few years ago. The toughest thing he faced was the shit storm of anger and broken promises waiting after he sobered up. He came to me to apologize for some stuff as part of his 12 steps program. It took quite awhile for him to get around to all the people he had burned over the years. But, AA kept after him until it was done. ![]()
Stinking, blasted edit timeout.
I needed to add… this quote from the cnn article. So that my post makes sense.
There was some kind of minor altercationthis weekend- an argument with his daughter per unsubstantiated reports- that resulted in the cops being called. Apparently no charges were filed or anything. You can guess at the things his kids would have to be mad at (e.g. if he spends a singled dime on anything before reimbursing his ex-wife for taking care of his kids when he walked out). I hope he’s seen a doctor because even in clean clothes the guy looks terrible.
There is no shortage of voice talent *without *extensive criminal history and drug addictions. Why no contracts being waved at them?
This is just a shoddy PR move and I’ll be glad when its off the radar. I won’t be suprised when this guy falls off the wagon either. And seriously Quicken Loans- you offfer this guy a mortgage? Remember that “Sub-Prime” problem a little while back? :smack:
And now back to your regularly scheduled programing…
His claims of being clean and sober for the past two years seem to have so far held up, as he has an AA sponsor (a guy who is a successful businessman in Ohio) who vouches for his attendance at meetings and support groups.
I was more than a little sceptical when I saw he has been arrested so recently (last May was the last time on record) and then again when I found out he had 9 kids, but apparently he has been giving it a solid effort, at least over the past couple of years…
Good Luck Ted—This is a second chance that many in your (hopefully former) shoes never get a chance at.
More and more lately, that last bit is not a wholly inaccurate description of urban America.
Dr. Phil got Ted to agree to 90 days rehab. I think that’s a good start. Maybe that will help reinforce the AA work he’s already done.
I’m not surprised. Williams kept saying he was 2 years sober. But, given he was still on the streets I suspected that wasn’t entirely true. He was simply telling people what they wanted to hear.
I do think he has cleaned up some. He has a sponsor and is attending meetings. From what I’ve heard, at one time he had both a crack and alcohol habit. Maybe this rehab will help him. It’s a good sign that he’s willing to do it voluntarily.
His second chance won’t last long unless he seeks help and gets clean.
