Teen Titans - 7/19

The pads are of course more detailed. And as you can see I’ve deleted the acronyms since I didn’t know if anybody would know what I was talking about if I used PPG. And since I got rid of that one I got rid of both.

No, that’s Super Girl by Shonen Knife, who are… I’d like to say good. Er. Really punk? And I’m pretty sure they still don’t speak a word of english. They’ve been around forever though. I like Little Brown Mushroom best…

I know they left out the opening themes to Trigun and Inuyasha, but kept the closing themes. It’s a pity since the opening theme to Trigun was a kind of guilty pleasure guitar rock song for me. I didn’t see the true opening to Outlaw Star until they had that Saturday night anime block a year or so back, it was okay but nothing special. Haven’t watched some of the more recent additions like Kikader or Cyborg 009 to know if they are playing those theme songs or not. I saw the opening song to Rurouni Kenshin after TT Saturday night, so their playing it at night at least.

I know some people like the kind of squeaky-voiced, bubble gum guitar pop on speed of The Teen Titans theme and lots of real anime, but it’s never really worked for me. I’ve never been a big Shonen Knife fan either, the Pizzicato Five was more my speed.

I can remember renting tapes to shows I liked like Sorcerer Hunters and the different El-Hazard series, and quickly learning to fast forward through them after the first few painful listens. But hey, YMMV.

I’m not too fond of the theme, myself. It sounds rather forced, and is definitely squeaky.

As an aside, while the Kikaider theme is nothing to write home about, I do like the bits where Jiro is sitting around playing his guitar. Does anyone know if those snippets are part of a larger piece of music?
