Teeth Whitening questions

OK, so I just bought some teeth whitening strips. Assuming there is a degree of whitening, I would assume any such change is not permanent. If this is correct, how long would the whitening last?

You have do it periodically. Either that or drink your wine and coffee through a straw.

You have to do it because now that everybody’s whitening their teeth, normal clean teeth look wrong.

How often depends on too many factors, such as what you eat and drink (and whether you drink it through a straw).

Dentist here. Depends on a lot of things. External staining from food and drink influences the longevity. Your teeth also make a difference. Some peoples teeth just yellow faster then others. I’ve got no cite but for many people the effect lasts a year or two. Many folks touch up every six months or so.

Is there any non-cosmetic benefit to whitening one’s teeth?

I don’t know, but you could e-mail the companies that make them and ask them. They should really put that information on the box. I have never bought them, and probably won’t, as too white teeth look as unnatural as white-blonde bleached hair. Extremely white teeth, in my opinion, can make a person look worse, and I would only use them if I had really, really yellow teeth.

I doubt it.

no

No, but the cosmetic benefits are massive.

Is there any non-cosmetic detriment to whitening one’s teeth?

some people get sensitivity. Generally short term-a few days or so. Can be longer in some cases such as teeth are sensitive prior to whitening. Whitening is safe for the enamel as long as you are using bleach(carbamide peroxide) only not one of the ones that uses abrasives or acids.
